PFT Gets Bitten

I guess the FAA has been on a bit of a tear trying to fine 134.5 operators and also go after the pilots who are even unknowingly flying illegal charter. Often with certificate action.

Another reason I'm glad to no longer be part of that world.

the FAA goes back and forth between the kinder and gentler FAA, and the zero tolerance FAA. Guess the pendulum has swung to the latter now.

I was astonished to discover through first-hand experience that some folks from the 121 world are so afraid of flying single pilot in IMC that they will make all sorts of childish excuses to avoid having to do so.

these are the same people who cannot function as a pilot without someone else to challenge and reply with and to share workload with; and who think anything single pilot is automatically “dangerous”.

I know they’re living rent-free in your head, but does that include utilities too? :)

It's a current enforcement focus. The real target is fake jet dry leases but they are looking at other things like sham instruction and transportation made to look like demo rides. But I don't expect to see much enforcement action, as opposed to Compliance Actions against pilots innocently misunderstanding the limitations of 61.113 rude sharing. I did a webinar on it several months ago.

It’s comical to me that this is a target of enforcement at all while rolling rest exists.

the low hanging fruit is much easier and much less actual effort to grab. Perfect for a large bureaucracy to tackle. :)

Back in the day there was a 135 check hauling operation out of ADS that was flying unairworthy airplanes and sending VFR 135 pilots out into IMC on IFR flight plans. Everyone in the "Big D"FW metroplex knew all bout it. The feds did exactly zero to put a stop to blatant violations.

OTOH, right next door at my 135 freight hauler, we had a guy forget to file his Hazmat paperwork for one trip and they came down on us like a ton of bricks. I finally realized that prosecuting a fine on a generally upstanding company was a lot easier and less work for the FSDO inspectors than actually shutting down a blatant violator who was putting pilots in danger.

There has been no point in my life, even as a young newbie obsessed with everything aviation, when I was so desperately in love with flying for a living that I’d load 2,000lb of cargo onto a plane. Screw that nonsense.
I remember those days. Makes think about what a loser I am.

Thats generally the case, but they did finally nail LAB Flying Service to the wall.

GTA? They still around? You’d be shocked how many illegal dry leases there are out of the DFW metroplex.

Not all of us had rich daddies to pay to go to Gulfstream though. I wouldn’t be doing it at 69 years old though.
