Florida man kicked off United Airlines flight for wearing women’s underwear as

Totally on board with this idea and good on ya for bringing it up. Just know a bunch of people already give regularly (probably like you), so even if they don’t respond to this specific call, it doesn’t mean they aren’t giving.
I've often wondered if this community should have a foundation of some sort, but part of my problem with the aviation related ones for the most part are solving Uptown Problems as opposed to lower things on the hierarchy of needs.

Uptown Problems™ are still problems, to be sure, but it's very unreasonable to expect people to raise themselves up by their own jock bootstraps if they are too hungry (or too homeless, for that matter - what a scourge that problem is) to study, attend schooling, what have you.

I always thought it would be cool to have a JC flight school scholarship or something. But the RTAG guys are doing that business pretty well these days.

This country needs new welders, electricians, plumbers and carpenters long before it needs more airline pilots.

If this board could form a verified charity to help anyone interested in aviation, pilots or mechanics (especially mechanics) or dispatchers or ATC hopefuls I'd donate. Sometimes the roughest rock ends up being a diamond. I've witnessed it.

Let’s focusing on solving the problems we can solve, not necessarily the problems related to the industry.

We can feed people, or get people mosquito nets, or something now. Let’s do something now in the immediate time, then put together a group of people who want to be a part of a charity that’s industry specific so we can organize that.

we can do both, for now, let’s solve a problem we can solve.

Let’s pull the fire handle and solve an immediate threat to someone right now using an established “effective altruism” charity, then start the process of building the Hook Dupin memorial scholarship or whatever. We can do both -we can chew gum and walk.

I used to give more regularly, but I haven’t done much in the last year due to getting sick and complications with that.

last few months I’ve been gainfully employed again, so meows the time.

I’m pretty picky with my charity dollars, to be honest. It basically only goes to GiveWell charities and animal rescue groups. It’s just really hard for me to justify giving money to a scholarship fund when people and pets are literally dying.

that’s why I say let’s do both - some will think like you and go the Peter Singer route, which is cool (and generally how I give), others will want to make it aviation related.

both are cool and I’m happy to help with both.
