I can’t understand how we’ve reached a point where acknowledging risk becomes “living in fear”.

My parents (mid 70’s, vaccinated and boosted) are coming down in a few days to spend Christmas with us (2 vaxed/boosted adults, 2 vaccinated kids).

We’re not changing our plans, but we’re certainly having discussions to make sure everyone is comfortable with the risks involved with travel during a time of rapidly increased infections and a scarcity of data on severity of the omicron variant.
Then why do you care about other risk tolerances? Is it because it's different than yours Or is it some complexity to tell us all about yours? Is this the new normal? Telling everyone your risk tolerances to have social interactions? You guys say "we don't live in fear", are vaccinated and boosted, and doing things even the head professionals say you don't need to. Then critize those who don't want to live this way. Maybe it's time to reflect that you can live your life how you want to and others can live theirs how they want to. In the end who cares?

Has humanity ever acted this way for respitory virus?

Calm down.

I don’t think that ranting about “perma masking” or “mask fetishishers” for anyone who disagrees with apophis’ or Todd’s or maybe your perspective is productive.

That’s all.

I remember 2019, it was a good year for many reasons. I got kind of sick in February of 2020 and went to the urgent care and got better and then the entire population decided to stay home and endlessly argue online. It's almost 2022 and apparently these quickly learned activities have become habits or personality traits. I miss 2019.

Additionally, a 91 year old person is going to have a HELL of a lot more risks from any other everyday activity, even pre COVID.

COVID has really destroyed many people’s ability to calculate risk.

Says the guy who opposed every mitigation measure since March 2020.

I’m just glad that even halfwit governors had a better ability to calculate risk than you back then, because we would have had so many more deaths.

Sure we would have. My state had a half assed lockdown and loosely enforced mask guidance and yet it was hardly the apocalypse.

You know what my state didn’t do? Send infected elderly people to recover in nursing homes like that idiot Cuomo in the paradise that is New York.

The problem is you can't prove this. I would argue many other countries did worse with their mitigation strategies and are no worse off than we are.

Ah now are into the whatif-isms. Just like how we could have defeated the first respitory virus in human history if we just took this serious and followed the measures back in March 2020.

I can't believe people actually think this stuff. :ooh:

I’m not sure how you got this from what I posted.

Apophis and Todd were vehemently opposed to mitigation measures early in the pandemic because it’s “a cold” and “less deadly than the flu”.

If we had taken *less* mitigation measures than we did, there’s no chance fewer people would have died.

That’s all I’m saying.

To be clear, I never said this. The "only 1.99 million to go" guy did. I was opposed to most mitigation measures, but not because it was a cold or the flu.

Of course, I don't think there's any legitimate argument there. But it's also true that if we drop the speed limit to 30 nationwide, we'll save tens of thousands of lives a year. We aren't going to do that, because we've decided that convenience is worth more than those lives.

Cry some more.

I love the fact that I refuse to wear a mask triggers you.
Maybe you can go write an article about how upset you are on Vox.com or The Atlantic like all your other virtue signaling leftists.

You're the one who's crying... ALL OF THE TIME....

I love how you use the words "trigger", "woke", "permamask", and "virtue signaling"

"Virtue signalling" is my favorite since that is what you're doing by refusing.

I make a motion, that before anyone can be a dick to each other any more in these threads, we have to donate something.

Seriously, the other thread is right, we're all terrible. Let's do something better than that.
