Why do a Fly Over, when you can do a Fly In ?

The jet flyovers are awesome and all but it was on another level when a Chinook and two Blackhawks emerged from the fog on a flyover similar to this at a Seahawks game. Unfortunately, I can't find a video of that one but this one was a close second.

 
Again......Good Christ.......whoever whined about this sure did not spend any time near an airport approach zone, war zone, training areas with helos, etc. Hell, life in general is tough for these folks
 
you know....watching the game in question I said to myself; "Self, that really looks lower than normal...."... and went back to my drink....
 
The helos could’ve flared and landed, and it would be no different than them doing so at any helipad, generally speaking.

The TRUE scandal here is that the national anthem sounds like it’s being sung at a funeral, and that the flyby occurred before the end of the song. :)

However, this reinforces why I’ve always said that flyovers are a waste of time. As a pilot doing these, you at best…..at best…..break even. You never win, and you’re always at high risk of losing, by whiners and complainers who don’t even know of what they speak, EVEN if you do everything right. It’s become a completely needless hassle. And hence why all the veteran older pilots run away fast when the unit gets a flyover tasking and is looking for “who wants to do this? It’s a great opportunity!” Nope, it’s really not.

I mean I assume there's a planned altitude for this sortie, and I know they practice it the day before. If they went below their planned altitude then I mean that's a reason for something, safety issue or not.

I guess the question is, was this the planned and briefed altitude? Cuz Lt Col Holland might be able to tell you a thing or two about why people might not be happy about a demonstration flight not being flown per the briefing

taking a B-52 far out of its performance envelope that it’s ever intended to operate in and exceeding all limits and prohibitions of same; and helicopters making a low altitude pass which helicopters do for a living, aren’t even in the same ballpark of consideration.
 
I’m curious if they checked on where the SkyCam guide wires are first? In some stadiums they are connected to the lights. Do this in the wrong stadium, gonna be a bad day for a lot of people.

I would hope so. Being that wires and poles avoidance to a helo pilot, is as sacred as certain types of icing avoidance to a light-medium fixed wing pilot (and helos too). Even though all these helos have wire strike protections kits, they’re not an item that you want to ever exercise.
