Ehhh ... it happens.
One example, among many. Shift change around 15:45 was raucous; lots of joking as oncoming dispatchers were briefed about the current situation by those going home. The laughter and volume got loud, and finally someone yelled. “OPEN MIC! OPEN MIC!”
My very intelligent response was a loudly-yelled, “OH, POOP” (use your imagination), where upon the Supervisor yelled, “BOB, SHUT THE F*** UP, OPEN MIC.”
Had to be five minutes of gladhanding and cursing that went out over the airwaves - fire, EMS and police. The Commissioner and his deputy ran to dispatch and arrived out of breath (too late). Anyone monitoring in two states and seven or eight surrounding counties got a big earful.
All eight of us received “remedial training” about proper radio use and a written reprimand.
Contrite at the time, it has become a fine memory for a TON of people in the general area, and another bullet dodged over a long career.
