@Autothrust Blue: I did an X list trip, single leg ORD-FLL, got out of the DH. Met @BigZ waiting for an AA JS back to ORD. Got bumped because of stupid LCKA...
My buddy virtually bitchslapped me: "Fly to MDW, and pay for the cab/uber to ORD, don't be a cheap ass."
$45 expenditure for 2 days of X list. Sometimes wading in poop is worth it.

Been there, done that, just DFW-DAL style. Sometimes it's worth $30 to get home. It all goes along with commuting. It's far more palatable when you've flown a premium trip.

Oh I hear you. There isn't much to trade now, but in December I made it smoke by trading 12 or 13 day trips around to get out of long sits and get the 12 days off straight I needed. But generally speaking, my notes look about the same, yes.

NGPA hosted Frontier webinar earlier today. Thanks to the shortcuts enroute and ORD giving us 28C vs 27R (that's the one in Wisconsin), I was able to attend.
The webinar was very well put together, guys answering questions did a great job, I think. Not everyone will be happy with those answers - ie the guys that are not current, but they were honest answers and reasons behind them were provided.
Overall about 730 people attended, which I think was a great turnout. Question ranged from great and thought out, to "hey, could you look at my resume now" (really?) and "what's competitive?" (Long explanation of why the preferred mins are what they are looking for) "that's cool, but what's competitive?" Or "if I go pay for an A320 type, will you hire me?" (Short answer is no).
I'm not particularly well versed in the intricacies of the airline hiring, but I couldn't help but think of @Derg's friends experiences in the hiring events. Asking a question to get noticed isn't always a great thing I'd think.

I never cease to be amazed at how tone deaf people can be when looking for a job. Maybe it’s nerves.
I think so. Nerves and trying to do what you think is right doesn't always come out right.
I remember shooting an RNAV to mins at night with a friend/student, his second ever actual approach, first one at night to the mins (LNAV mins at that).
"Cessna 123AB, Daytona Approach, let me know where the bases are please"
I'm about to press the button and tell him and my dude hits the PTT and fires out "ONE THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED!" "Uhm... thanks.." "He meant six hundred, approach. Thanks for your help and goodnight".
"One thousand nine hundred? How did you even come up with that?" "I don't know". Great demonstration of the weird crap people say when nervous.

Seeing some comments on TPN post about spirit, people (other pilots for that matter) really pith me off. Yes 3,000 hours is a great minimum to fly an airbus, probably won’t even get a look without a reference with those hours now. The simple fact that Spirit and Frontier are LCC’s make pilots think they’re just a regional flying A320’s. That just shows a lack of research about current times, which shows laziness. When I was at a regional, many pilots were saying they had their apps in at the big three and wouldn’t even consider Spirit or Frontier, I wonder how those pilots are doing now?

End rant....

That's kind of my point.
The preferred mins are 2500 total with 500 turbine or somewhere there. They basically said it is realistic to get hired with that. They feel that's enough experience to learn to fly the bus their way, and 10000 pilot might not necessarily be easier to train. One gentleman on the panel said he got hired with 3 hrs over the published mins back in 2013.
The vibe I got was that they are looking for whoever they believe will be the most trainable, but more importantly a good personality fit. Ie I don't think they are looking for "I've got 7000 at my regional and came here because Pan Am is not hiring"

You should see what my phone did yesterday.

I bet a few of those that reached out to you were probably people you haven’t heard from in years as well. Maybe a few FO’s from your previous shop that once told you they’d go mainline before they upgraded?? Just a hunch.

I’m sure you also had some good people who are actually wanting to advance their career at Yellow and will be happy to be there vs waiting for the “real airlines” to hire again.

Pretty much. “Dear Dough,” (@Derg) but no coats and hats involved.

I promptly turned off my ringer and went to the kitchen to cook instead, as that sparks joy.

This is why I'm glad I don't have many "friends."

"Hey guy, we flew together like 6 years ago and I haven't ever called or texted since, I was wondering..."

I did the reverse of this last year before we came up with a furlough mitigation LOA, and offered a few F/Os, with varying degrees of how well I stay in touch, to write recommendations if they needed them for jobs. Luckily nobody ended up needing them.

It's crazy how things have changed in just a few short months. I dragged a few of my idiot friends to NGPA last year and it was packed, 5 VX/AS guys and an Atlas guy chatting while standing in line to talk to DL. What an absurd picture that is now considering the current [lack of] hiring. Netflix was there and people were not really interested. The belle of the ball is a revolving door!
