AA parking half their fleet as well.

I had to look at the google map satellite view of MZJ (since I didn't know where it was). I see the Starships. Are those DC6's next to them?

Looks like they have astrodomes so I'm guessing DC-4/C-54's.

Edit: yup, at least one of them is a C54

I remember there being a large collection of Beech Starships there before they all were scrapped. These planes might fly out but it isn’t the first time Mariana has been used as a parking lot.

It’s the first time for commercial airliners. About 6 of the Starships are still on field, the bulk of the fleet was scrapped at MZJ. One apparently flying and one at the Pima Museum here.

I used to work the ramp for the one at Pima. That thing was such a hangar queen, I think it flew maybe 10 times in the two years I worked there.

I’d say it’s time to rent a Cessna and romp around AVQ and the SE practice area for a while but given the state of things I will stick to doing a drive by on my commute to TUS (assuming I ever fly again at work which doesn’t look likely any time soon).

My home field MZJ is packed with Delta aircraft that arrived here’s few weeks ago, all widebodies. 5 miles south, AVQ, is storing jets for the first time in its history now. It never used to be an airline storage field. About 16 E170/175s so far. Sad sight.

As @Adler alluded to those are the former CPZ birds and like he said, 20 of them should be there now N200NN-N219NN.
