Just Broke 10,000 hours

I only update my logbook frantically about a week before an interview, but I'm probably nudging it myself. And, like the rest of you, this was not part of The Plan. In my defense, I've been doing better as I've gotten older...indeed, while if one went by averages, I would retire with 20000+, if the *trend* holds true it'll be more like 15. Gotta have goals.

I keep laughing at all this but I'm about to 10k, I see it as book one of a trilogy. I guess I never considered, and still don't, a 20k or 30k hour career as a mistake.

And I volunteered for the union pretty hard for a couple years which took me away from a lot of trips.

Student pilot in 2003 but basically hired as a very low time CRJ pilot in 2007. As of tonight I have 10,531 total time and only about 650ish of that is TPIC. Started at a regional in Oct 2007 and made just one move to a LCC/Major in early 2012 and then delayed upgrade by 9 months. Every year since starting at the airlines, I've flown 900+ hrs, except since upgrading last year I'm on reserve so obviously time is less for 2018 and 2019. Even if if I'd taken the first available upgrade, it would have been 10 yrs and 2 months to be a Captain since starting at a regional. Age 65 + the 2008-2011ish recession. I won't complain much, at least I had a job. Many people were far worse off.

I still do paper logbooks, never switched to electronic. The problem with hitting 10,000+ hrs is that now you're writing five digits in a column that really can't fit that too well (I use the standard Jepp logbook).

Check out Logbook Pro for your e-log (shameless plug)... Good for you getting to a major fast. The market was very different for me when starting out. A Tprop regional wanted 3000+ just to interview... The kids in school today don't know how good they have it..

I’m in my 2nd year at a major airline and am on track to hit 10,000 hours around 2035.

Nice...
