Finally joined a flying club near DFW

You know you can do the thing with your fingers and show the exact distance, right?
Yes.

That's not what I was referring to. I used to be able to correlate an inch on my sectional to a given swath of land below. What I discovered, while exclusively using my iPad over the course of a round trip between Chicago and Houston is that there is no correlation between an inch on my iPad and anything... because an inch can be anything. I no longer had an intake innate sense of scale, and I found it vaguely disorienting.

It's a small drawback, but a drawback never the less. Also, quick access to the legend and the tower/frequency tab are points for paper.

That said, I love having Garmin pilot in my iPad, and a GDL-50 receiver paired to it. I download the briefing for my planned flight, but let's face it, I was traveling with my 3 year old. Planning is a loose term. 45 minutes into my three plus hour leg, someone has to go potty. No big deal, compare fuel prices at the logical choices, pull up the NOTAMs, I'm covered.

Add to it the compete A/FD and US Terminal Procedures... I'm not willingly giving up my iPad. That doesn't mean that I can't find paper to be superior in some respects.

Whatever you’d like to use to avoid the “practice” DF steer is more than fine.

Since @SlumTodd_Millionaire and others are ganging up on @bLizZuE. I'd just like to add that I prefer manual transmissions to automatics. It's a preference.

CHANGE MY MIND!!!

COME AT ME, BRO!
That was my exact thought lol. Yes, I could have experienced an easier purchasing process and yes, I could have a mindless driving experience with an automatic, but I chose to deal with all the difficulties of a manual so Imma just shut my mouth.

(the exception being high performance/turbine aircraft, those cats need to be with the program, stuff happens too fast to be fumbling with charts, most especially single pilot)

Idk, I use paper charts when I fly GA. The 430 has adsb with traffic and weather in it. some part of my brain still finds it satisfying using sectionals (this coming from a guy who finally got to throw his jepps in the trash in the last week)

New toy!

WingX is free for CFIs and military. You get the full version as well not some watered down version. I mainly just use it for charts.
