Oh god I hate that.

One captain I flew with was basically baiting me to ask about pictures of his second (flight attendant) wife and eventually showed me pictures of her in the shower with her new “attachments”.

He was one of those attention hounds that need far too much validation and she wasn’t much to look at. I felt bad because she probably has no idea that he’s not at work taking about how wonderful their life is together or how nice of a person she is, but that “Hey, look my wife just got new boobs, here she is in the shower: LOOKATUM!”

“Uhh, neat!” while parenthetically thinking “Dear god, that can’t be unseen”

Anywhere else in Corporate America that would be an HR issue. Lol.

Am I the only FO who, when the Capt starts whipping out pics of his muscle cars, airplanes, or beach house, actually gets excited about the fact that with a little time and financial discipline, that's what's waiting for me, too, when I move over to that seat?

Nah.

That said, I don't really want any of the toys. Park me in a nice place near a beach (or give me the ability to jet to a beach readily and have drinks with umbrellas in them handed to me on the regular, while still making financial "progress") and give me a book and I'm set.

A decent-sized condo with two cats and two bags of money and the occasional blow-out vacation, and I'm a happy camper.

This does not include shoes, of course. Which change to brown next year I believe. I got some nice BLACK boots with wool lining for the SE trips and the walk arounds captains will never help with. 350$ down to 100$ at the Nordstrom Rack.

I can itemize that noise if you’d like. But I’m guessing your privilege will just ignore it. Or tell me I should have went to the secret 2nd hand shop in Gig Harbor, while I was in initial with no car. It’s why senior guys don’t have my back, they have zero empathy.

I was off by 22$ and 2 cents. Not quite 700$ What year did you buy your jacket? 1973? The current jacket price on the Perrone website is 416-446$

It’s why I keep saying over and over again there are two different airlines where I work. Clueless captains keep showing me photos of their boat they are two scared to take out of the sound and brag about how much they made picking up premium. I’m literally broke and selling my house, on the hope it will get better one day. I know I won’t find empathy with the pilot group. I don’t know why I bother. I’m certainly not looking forward to 2020. They don’t even survey the guys on probation.

There's a distinct difference between say @Screaming_Emu and I sitting in a cockpit talking/having a conversation about our mutual love/appreciation of fast cars. Then the pics start coming out.

Vs. Captain Bob having an awkward captive audience and showing his FO his catalog of fancy things. Starting with his huge $500k house. His brand new ZO6 Corvette, his brand new tricked out golf cart. His new boat. His wife's new tits. And his HUGE financial portfolio out of completely random.

There's a huge difference between having a conversation and showing pics of your toys or talking about them and showing examples. VS. shoving them in peoples faces and obviously bragging.

I'm sure most would be ok with that.

I was hired into an aircraft and base. My aircraft and base were changed. I had planned per promises made during a direct phone call, to return to said aircraft and base in a specific time frame. This turned out to be an empty promise. In the ensuing months I got myself into debt holding onto a home I thought I'd be able to move back into. The only way to ensure that you will be well and truly screwed is to adapt a mentality that you are well and truly screwed. Screwed though you are, simply quitting is not an acceptable way to handle it.

Are you alright? Not merely financially, that is; nobody with a family on first-year pay with the exception of the hatted probably are.

I have never had a Captain do this but I wouldn't get pissed, or excited. There's bigger issues to worry about. Like data, handle, gauge. Both pilots. Both seats. All the time.
