Skywest Questions

So what’s the story with the YWG customs issue? I remember a year ago we had the same problem because a crewmember got off to use the bathroom but I hadn’t heard anything lately. Of course my first trip of the year has a flight to YWG
Again?

-laughs-

Did someone go to the bathroom in the terminal again?
Assuming they aren't backed up, it doesn't take THAT long to go in and clear. I had a 1:31 turn there once that, with SJI Connecshun's requisite overblocking turned into more like 1:50, and I think we only spent about 25 min actually going through CBSA, CATSA and US CBP at preclearance.

That said, the old world policy of shutting down the damn jet every time plus the requirement of "one goes, all go" makes it far more annoying.

UPDATE: NIXON RESIGNS
Update 2: AA and RJ are not as different as SAPA is gonna have you believe. (not aimed at you @Autothrust Blue , but the others viewing who may not know this)

You guys don't even wanna know how they view the pilot group. I'm just here to spread positive morale, keep the Union fight strong. Remember: A union is not only there to protect you from the company, it's also there to protect you from each other.

Remember how the Surfaces (as crappy as they were) had a 2 year depreciation period whereby it was yours? And then the rule changed overnight? Right, the PPM is exactly that. Something that can change day in day out overnight. Get a union and get a CBA now. This is the time to make history and check the final box of 121 passenger carriers that are unionized.

I'm not sure anyone believes, really, they are different.

Apathy, complacency and willful ignorance. One thing positive is management (sapa) is stirring the nest of the old dudes out west while management (chip & co.) make moving east the only advancement path. It's happening, I'd be surprised if we dont have ALPA by 2021.

I would have added, they are the same. Anyone in SAPA is suspect in my view. None of them can be trusted. Interesting to see how those prior to their election were anti-SAPA, once on board, all pro.

having been in that position, I will say that it is a game you have to play. You can't be an effective rep if you can't have the executive board at least feel you are on SAPA side. It's really sort of frustrating because you come in, and realize that you have 12+ people that are all extremely anti-union and pro-company, 3-4 guys who you aren't sure about and you are trying to fit in but still be true to what you believe. You wanna change it from the inside but the only way to do that is to make the current members accept you. JB said in an open door meeting: "If those 2 (candidates running for 2 positions) make it on here, we will not allow them into closed door talks, they will have to walk out."

I am not making this up.

That's why it can seem like people are politicians saying what needs to be said to get elected then they shut up. You have to figure out how it all works before you can figure out how to change it. And to be completely honest, it doesn't matter how it works or who is in it. You have to have a union. You can't just have the company ask for changes everyday or ask them for changes every day. any inkling of leverage you accumulate by having some rule when they need it changed, immediately dissipates when they change the rule overnight.

I'm glad I am outta there and can now share these things. Because again these were open door meetings and I could've shared them when I was at skywest, but that would've killed me effectiveness as a rep/pilot/anything else. I feel as though I did more for pilots before I joined SAPA than after. And that's the hardest thing to realize, is that reps really don't have as much power as people think they do.

Then it sounds like a prison sentence being elected to SAPA.

I absolutely hated the surface, and yet this still bothers me quite a bit. Worse is the "they were never yours" line from SAPA, which makes me feel like I'm being gaslighted. Only after someone else found the old PPM that described it did I stop questioning my sanity. (See also: Dauntless Software, and Why I Have A Vendetta Against Them)

Retroactive rule changes of this nature hit hard on my principles.

Pfft. Or you just find a few things that are so widely popular that you steamroll the crap out of RJ.

I'm only mad about it because I had planned to donate it as one of our co-workers had suggested.
