Update: UPS flight dispatchers are asking to be paid like counterparts at Delta, American

@Atlanta
Anyone who disagrees with you doesn't understand economics and is automatically a far left loyal Bernie Sanders follower, right? Got it. So tell us, what exactly are you worth to your employer? More than the rest of us I'm sure.
Silly statement. I’m worth what my employer is willing to pay.
Go ahead and try and purchase a car or house and tell the seller you deserve that item for X. See how that works for you.
More than likely if it isn’t in the ball park of what it’s WORTH you will be walking away empty handed.
This isn’t about Bernie. Although many of you sound like him

Go ahead and tell your company to raise your pay and ratify a new contract, see how that works for you. Oh wait, it happens every few years.

I'm convinced you're trolling at this point.

Bummer for you. This method works for me every time! :D

And this is where unions come in. Do you think the majors pay their topped out dxers $200,000/yr out of the kindness of their hearts? And who said anything about throwing tantrums? Working professionals negotiating higher pay is not my definition of a tantrum. Why don't you opt out of your union and let the company pay you what they think you're worth? Put your $16/hr where your
I've seen some of the numbers. On some flights I save the company more by tankering fuel than they pay me per day. Add up everything that is saved in a day and I bet they could easily cover my pay for a well what are the profit margins at your airline?

So what what your telling me is you walk up to a dealer purchase a new BMW for $1000?
I call BS but nice try

I guess we'll see how much they're worth when they strike and none of their planes go anywhere (thus, none of the packages too) because they have nobody to do releases. This isn't an industry where you can shout shut up and color, we have a license and a specialized skill and without us air carriers are completely screwed. It's in their interested to ensure we are paid fairly and are happy. Nobody here got a DX license so they could bend over and take it from a multi-billion corporation that could likely pay the entire departments salary in a month or less. We're not fast food workers, we're dispatchers.

I think Atlanta should be thanking his union for the quality of life he has. If his attitude on here reflects his personality and attitude at work, I don't care how hard you work, you'd be out on your a** trying to collect what Bernie offered as NO employer will see much worth in his toxic attitude no matter how 'good' he is at this job.

You're the one who started calling people Bernie on here. You sound very similar to CRJ at this point with all the political drivel. Last I checked a car/home is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Anyone who pays full retail on a car is a moron to put it mildly.

The idea that one dispatchers "really make safety decisions or actually have operational control" is ridiculous. The fact is we release what 60-80 flights a day... how many of those flights are monitored the entire time? We punch in a few numbers into a program that spits out most of the information needed. We read a metar or taf.. Watch weather systems... All things that can be taught to a chimpanzee as well. This notion that scheduling or MX is any less important in non-sense.

I like this post.

Yeah except they will never strike so your point is moot! How much do you think a you would be worth is the FAA removes the requirement to have dispatchers
It’s not unions that get you the nice contracts. It’s the FAA requirement.

So what you are saying is any company that pays dispatchers a lot of money is a moron to put it mildly? That’s not very nice!

Please Unions cost jobs and cost good employees the opportunity to earn more money just for the sake of equality.

I'm saying they'll get what they pay for. The majority of the good dispatchers don't stay at the regionals very long. I know it pains for you to hear this.

Don't get lulled into thinking you're not replaceable because you have a license. I have a license as well and I was replaced I am a former NWA mechanic who was forced on strike in 2005. NW planned for 2 years to replace us and spent millions training scabs. Also when I was in college in 1985 UAL pilots were on strike and they were flying albeit with a much smaller flight schedule and lets not forget maybe you are too young to remember but Reagan fired and replaced the Air Traffic Controllers in 1981 and airplanes were still flying. You guys are the smallest certificated group bar none in an airline would not take much to replace you if they wanted too. That being said you being a small group tends to lend itself to airlines generally giving you what you want. Airlines do not want to hand over operational control to someone else if they don't have too it is usually easier to give you DX'ers a good deal it won't hurt their bottom line too much because of your small numbers unlike the pilot, mechanic and FA groups.

Certainly, I'm not saying we can't be replaced, but it's probably too expensive and too much of a pain to do for it to be worth it in the end. If it did come to that somewhere I would imagine things have gotten very ugly.

Lets say UPS does strike (hopefully it doesn't come to that), it will cost them a lot of money to train scrabs or contract a 3rd party to do their releases, not to mention any possible litigation that may come out of that. Then I wonder what the pilot side would think about getting releases from poorly trained scabs or a 3rd party that does not know the company OPSPEC or policy and procedures. It is probably cheaper and easier in the long run to simply play ball and make a deal.

Pilots at NWA didn't seem to have a problem with scab mechanics working on their airplanes when we were on strike so don't bank on that either. But like you said and I said in the case of your group it is probably less heartburn to just negotiate a deal seeing that you're group is fairly small.
