9E to travel ahead of DL retirees

If you look at the medium-term fleet plan with the CS series, owning a regional literally makes no sense when you intend on doing most of that level of flying yourself.

It's not personal, but judging by the history of the airline, if EDV is on the books in 3 years, I'd be very surprised.

Think of it like a deep fat fryer. They're delicious, convenient and make awesome french fries. Now you pick up an Air Fryer, does the exact same job, hardly any oil and ultimately healthier. But you've only got a limited cupboard space...
Yep the C Series is going to shake things up a bit. It’ll be doing a lot of stuff we’re doing now. As far as the air fryer it’s the best thing i bought in 2017. Now that I think about it chicken and beer sounds good for dinner.

And this is why I’m absolutely shocked how many times in the very short time I’ve been here I’ve heard guys I’m flying with doing NOTHING to move on.

After Comair, deciding to make a career at a regional became a pretty stupid idea. It’s one thing to put effort into leaving and getting stuck, another one entirely to delude yourself into thinking it’s going to work out.

As I understand it there are double digit seniority captains at ASA sitting reserve right now.

The Jr line holder MSP-900CA is a 1997 hire at Endeavor.

Nobody wants to work for the pay that regional pilots have made historically. The bonuses that they have to offer to get people in the door will make outsourcing no longer worth it.
It's not just the pilot cost saved...it's the:

Dispatchers
FAs
Mx support
Overall management
Ground operations
Admin staff

The list goes on.

I think the next 3 years at the regional level will be complete chaos.
This is why I hate to see so many guys getting comfortable since our new LOA. I’ve flown with a handful of guys who are trying to move on. Most say they’re comfortable financially and with QOL, and those are 35 and 40yr old guys. Just looking at what’s going with the MSP base should be enough encouragement for folks to get out of here.

Its hard to imagine that mindset is still going on. 10 years ago when people left the regionals, and then came back on their furlough time from the major, I can see, as was I, being cautious of leaving. But now maybe its ego when you've seen guys who are junior and younger to you, leave the regional and get that ticket, knowing you would be now junior to them for life, may be a tough pill to swallow.

IKR, there’s so much opportunity out there now. After going through what some guys went through here I’d be trying to get out the first chance I could no matter how good things are. But you got a point maybe it is an ego thing.

I don’t think it’s an ego thing at all. From the guys that I’ve spoken to, they’ve just gotten way too comfortable. They have 15-18 days off a month and make good enough money. A lot of them say the classic line, “I can’t afford the pay cut and bad schedule.”

Ego thing.

I ran into a guy I knew from a long time ago. He passed the flow to AA. He’s pretty much at the top of the list at his regional. He said they are getting beat up there and he could only hold 14’ish days off/month. He asked about how another buddy of ours (who was junior to him at the regional) was doing. I didn’t have the heart to tell him he upgraded, was holding 15’ish days off a month making ~300k at mainline.
It never turns out well to pass up opportunities in this industry. As my buddy Red said, “get busy living or get busy dying.”

That may be true, but remember, one man’s “get busy living” is easily another’s “get busy dying”...
