Um, is that really a surprise? Play the game.
Why even bother bidding for anything other than days off then? Just show up on your assigned days and go where they tell you. Oh, that’s right, that’s called reserve. And it sucks.
I meant that as a lineholder during a rotation. It's still your trip, pay protected, but maybe you end up in a different city tonight and then re-join your pairing tomorrow. For example, suppose you were supposed to do CMH-ATL-DCA (overnight) DCA-ATL-MCO next day. But today, you do CMH-ATL and reassigned to RDU for the night, tomorrow RDU-ATL and now re-join the ATL-MCO leg as original. My point is as long as you are pay protected for the greater of the two, and you finish at or before your original last day end time, does it matter what re-assignment happens on a rotation? I don't see what the issue is with this case. You're still flying as a line holder, just maybe a different city pair or overnight, but you are still getting paid original (or better) and end at the same original last day time.

Sorry you can't lay on the beach and sip a margarita in 80 deg weather, instead being holed up in a CMH Hilton with 30 degrees outside. It's not like it happens every day and I can count on two hands the amount of times in 10 yrs that I have spent a different overnight than planned as a result of a CS initiated switch.
