I'm just going to leave this riiiiiiight here...

I once refused to leave the FBO to airline home with a young FO that walked in wearing the ragged out white t-shirt he had on under his uniform shirt the whole trip. That was more just teaching the kid how to act like an adult rather than being a good captain.
Ended up loaning him a shirt.

I had to do also same thing once as a captain but the guy was 45.

I was 28.

Age isn't everything.

I'm pretty sure you've likely had genitals dipped into your beverage of choice at work. Just saying.

You had a problem with his outfit for airlining? As a paid pax not non-rev/JS? You’ve seen other pax right?

Im all for looking sharp at work. I make sure I always have shiney shoes, iron my shirt nicely, have nicely pressed pants. But I'm not going to wear a jacket thru the terminal when I'm hot. I always run hot and find terminals are always stuffy so never wear my jacket. Our policy is you must always bring your jacket. If it's not worn it must be slung over your arm. Nope stupid stupid stupid. Not doing that.

I'd be all for neat beards. I don't really see how having red bumps and looking like I made out with a weed eater is more professional than some facial hair, but until it changes... snip snip.

I feel your pain.

Same here, I have to walk slower in the blazer to avoid turning into a sweaty mess.

There are domestic carriers too.

Captains should have beards. I don't know how I'd tell a guy wasn't a captain without a sweet beard. Let's look at some famous and important captains through history:

Here's a wood cut from the first captain to reach Japan:

Here's the Portuguese dude who discovered Brazil:

Here's Vasco de Gama - who, by the way, was the first European to sail to India:

Oh - remember that movie with Tom Hanks? "I'm the Captain NOW?!" Here's real life Captain Philips - note the goatee - I suspect the Somali's would have been scared off if he had a full beard:

Captains have beards. Full stop.

We're still professionals, and we're certainly not Walmart shoppers taking our once a year flight to Orlando.
We'll also more than likely be siting at a bar together or at least at a table in descent restaurant.

which has less than zero bearing on what you wear while traveling to and from the airplane. Do you fashion check your copilots before they get in their car to drive home too? How about when they check into the hotel room? What are acceptable pajamas for an overnight?

And who exactly are you trying to impress? Hopefully not anyone who knows the difference between a decent restaurant and a descent one ;)

Fashion isnt something Ive noticed many airline guys possess when it comes to apparel on overnights, for those that Ive seen. In fairness though, one can only pack so much in overnight bag items when on the road, so overnight apparel is likely limited anyway.

Yea, I'm sure that polyester quadruple knit blend really turned some heads over at GQ....and the sleeve length made all the diff....

A well tailored uniform can look pretty good, even when it is polyester. A $99 polyester blend suit bought at JCPenney and tailored well will always look better than a $4,000 suit bought off the rack and barely altered. I point you to Donald Trump’s Brioni suits as all the proof needed.
