A Southwest Airlines pilot was arrested Wednesday morning after he tried to sneak a loaded weapon past airport security at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Transportation Security Administration officers found a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm pistol in the first officer’s carry-on bag, a TSA spokesperson said.

The man, 51, was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon for carrying the handgun, which was loaded with several rounds.

TSA contacted local law enforcement, who confiscated the gun and arrested the man.

The pilot was scheduled to fly on Flight 1106 to Las Vegas.

So they are claiming it was deliberate and not accidental. That sounds unlikely.
 
Something something, that one time I forgot about a knife I left in my backpack after a camping trip. I made it through security and found it when I got to my friends house. I'm just glad I didn't make national news for being both a knife owner AND and an airline pilot. The horror.
 
Its always funny how you never realize how much airplane silverware you have accumulated in your lunch bag.... until they take all of it while going thru security in Canada.

The shield, while a great handgun, is not standard issue for the FFDO program........

While I was flying up in Alaska I had forgotten about a 3 inch push dagger in my backpack that looked similar to this.

I unknowingly traveled through security at PDX, SEA and ANC about 9 times before ANC TSA finally caught me with it on a trip home. The guy laughed and said I turned so white when he pulled it out he thought I was going to pass out. He confiscated it and sent me on my way.
