Nah, just figured it's as good a time as ever to read the NOTAMsHe's looking up the procedures of how to proceed if you are fired upon by a missile.![]()
I've had one of those moments on a ILS approach down to minimums during the seemingly perennial GPS jamming tests in the whitesands:Nah, just figured it's as good a time as ever to read the NOTAMs![]()
First time I flew from Carlsbad, NM to Presidio, TX (aka Zeta Cartel International Airport) I noticed 'that's an odd small circle restricted area, okay ill flight plan just 3 mi outside it rather than climbing over it.'Even things hundreds of miles away can be, eh, somewhat alarming under the right circumstances. I remember back in the mists of time doing a repo leg in a Beatchjet. It was in the bad old days of 91 repos after a full 135 day of flying. We were beat, think it was like 11 or 12 at night...I was flying (by which I mean I was staying awake and sort of bleerily half-watching the autopilot do its thing). All of the sudden, huge bright light 12 oclock and RIGHT THERE, moving towards us at insane speed! Spilled the coffee, woke the F/O, got within an ass hair of clicking off the autopilot. It was a shooting star.
Didn't need coffee to stay awake for the rest of the leg!
'Aaaaahh!! Zee Germans!!!'
it was a CBP aerostat.
Shooting star woke me up once. Looked like someone shot a green military flare right over my wingtip. Had to check alt to make sure I'm still at 9000
Wasn't there a guy few years ago who woke up from his nap, mistook a star for another plane and went into a dive?
