Hand Flown RNAV SIDS and STARS

"Until you're a little light in the seat…"

Doesn't work that great in the sim... did the IP point to the G meter to help you figure out where the half G is reached? I'd spend some time letting them get the feel of it since it's not really there.

YAS! Works great, lasts long time. It's all about preventing the LOI events like Colgan and even the latest Lear in TEB. Unload that wing first....

USair (when it was actually still AAA) had a whole manual dedicated to basic aerodynamics. I should see if I can find it anywhere. It had really good stuff in it.

We had a pretty good class on that during the old 727 engineer days. But I doubt if it's being discussed these days.

The wings could do certain things. The engines can do certain things. The buffet margin, with high/low speed considerations would allow for certain things. They were all inter-related instead of simply looking at the FMS and presuming the "max" number meant you were good with them all.

I'm confused. Didn't you and I have a discussion, we'll really a make mention of, of the auto brakes in the bus? They work, they work was the gist of what I got from you.

Has your philosophy changed?

I don't think our training has us handfly SIDs and STARS but we do have an area where we turn off all automation and fly around and do a couple of visual approaches etc.

I really have no idea!

@Roger Roger and @ppragman

The safety dude got back to me. As relayed and as I understand it, FOQA doesn't cross monitor SIDS / STARS. It takes man power to analyze potential issues using open source tools.

Hope that helps.

Ahh I miss that bird and all the tab data...

Unless it is smooth as heck I don't like going to recommended max alt. I personally like a little bit bigger buffer.

Sadly, we're in a world ("in a weeeeeeeeeerld") where if the FMS says "Okie doke" everyone presumes that the wing, engines and buffet margin are good.

It's always interesting to see the trust/knowledge level of that thing by the guy you're flying with when ATC asks if you can accept an altitude near max.
-"sure"
-"FFFFFFFF NO!!!!!"

"Cheap ass 1234, Can you accept 3-9-0?"

99%* -"No."

not even worth the effort to look...

i don't know the conversation you speak of obviously but all I know is anyone who uses auto brakes with reverse idle in the summer is a dick hole haha. Sweet, getting a new airplane out of vegas on go home day aaaaaaannd the brakes are 415:(
