Skywest Questions

He's still here AFAIK.

When I found out the company had cut a special deal for someone I immediately started sending out job applications.

It says a lot.

Don't take this the wrong way but... what exactly will it take to meet your expectations?

A seniority based system: for schedule, basing, upgrades etc. That was my expectation. It isn't an expectation that is out of line. I'm sitting reserve in ORD because I don't have the seniority to hold anything else.

The minute you go down the road of giving line pilots special deals, not to mention a new hire FO a special deal, well you just lost your seniority system.

But hey I'm a super rad mountain bike racer and I signed up for the local summer race series. I want those days off! Right meow!*

*whats the difference?

I'm so confused. So....

There's a pilot at OO who's been an air show pilot for 10 years. They wouldn't approve a LOA. So they worked out a recruiting agreement (since he's going to be performing at air shows around the country - might as well try to recruit some fresh meat) and is still here apparently? And this is upsetting to some people? Is/was (I have no idea if that person is still employed at OO. Thought they left) he senior to the people that are unhappy?

No offense, but you seem to have major complaints about every job you have ever held.

I'll split the middle on this one. No one. And I mean no one...should receive special treatment that abrogates seniority or violates the SkyW PPM (POS toilet paper 'contract' FWIW) just because of whatever circumstances. You either abide by a seniority system or you don't.

On the other hand, @BEEF SUPREME, dude it's only been like 6 months. You'll be mighty fine shortly.

It's total BS if they're letting guys take an "entire summer off". But....if it's a few weekend air shows that SKW attends anyway and he's doing some recruiting?? I can get this...

I have noticed that about half the new hires in my class I recently trained with on the 175 seem to be getting the ORD blues. Some before they even get on-line. A bunch of sickness, requests for EXTRA IOE, leaving for other jobs closer to home, exc, exc..

Honestly, I think training contracts are bogus but after seeing how few of the new hires are actually willing to come out and fly the line I wouldn't blame the company. Those type ratings are coming from our profit sharing checks. Don't come here unless you're willing to do a few months in ORD.

I personally don't care if someone is willing to take a leave of absence without pay or bennies to do whatever.

I do understand why a company which has paid lots of money to train said person balks at allowing them to take an extended leave during their probationary year.

I also understand that people are needed badly.

In conclusion.

*Shrug*. :) This really doesn't affect me at all.

That's the thing. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with any of it. For all I know though the Swiss cheese "contract" and seniority wasn't abrogated and a certain someone in the student council changed the PPM to make PLA available to anyone, and us minions don't know about it yet.

For all I know the "deal" could be part of the soft landing policy and the company just decided to leave him on the seniority list because it'll be only a few months?

Beats me...

Which is why I'm still super confused and wouldn't be surprised if there's more to this story.

If something like that at a huge company is enough to make you start sending out job applications... you're going to be sending out a LOT of job applications in your life.

Nope. I enjoy working here quite a bit. Cool crews, nice equipment, actual work rules. I'm not super stoked on ORD but that's life in a seniority system and I'm totally fine with paying dues. I'm asking a lot of questions lately about ORD reserve and holding another base because I just moved my family out here. I was trying to time the sublet so l didn't spend a bunch of extra money on rent.

If you guys have issues with someone who has 5000+ TT, 1000 PIC turbine and international experience moving on, I got nothing.

The company not abiding by the seniority system is just an indicator for me to speed up the process. Based on past experiences.
