And it's not even summer yet (Passenger vs Pilot)

Another beauty they pull: have an EDCT for 2 hours from now? Well let's just board on time and the pax can sit on the jet with the door open for an hour until push. That crap doesn't fly for me though. If we board, we're pushing when done. No chance I'm sitting at the gate, ready to go, for any extended amount of time, while the entire crew now has the responsibility for our passengers and we're unpaid. Nope, not happening. Either you keep them up in the terminal, or we board and go sit in the penalty box waiting for our EDCT. Those are the only two options.

I've seen quite the opposite....EDCT in 3 hours and flight crew saying "Let's board and maybe they'll let us out early..... Cha Ching $$$$$" Actually very common. Little do the pax know that the pilots primarily wanted to pad their paycheck or try to go illegal for future legs.

What airline is that? If we pulled something like that, we'd get an ACARS asking why we were off the gate.

My guess? American. I saw them do this lots of times during my career. At one point I half-jokingly suggested we rename the runup area for RY22 the "AAL Pay Bay".

Clearly some crews don't understand the DOT rules.

And since FLIGHT time does not commence until an aircraft moves under its own power for the purposes of flight, they're really not doing themselves any favors, unless they taxi out somewhere then shut down.

(In other news, pilots shocked to learn compensation block and flight time not the same.)

Dumb dumb dumb dumb.

You guys have a separate OOOI time calculation or is this a personal calculation? I understand the FAR's but I thought (Republic?) was the only carrier measuring the move under own power time.

Crew Suppression will make the adjustment when necessary, yes.

Hmmm, that's suspect.
It's on my long list of stuff to do. I even know how I'd fix it (BLK leg). They make positive contact with you when the adjustments are done; they are pretty rare things. Still, there's no easy way to have it depicted as far as I know. (Has not happened to me.)

This is the worst.
Me: our edct is an hour and a half from now.
Old Cap: we have lots of gas, let's get off the gate and make some cash. We'll feather one or two in the runup block.
Me: it's 85 degrees, and these packs suck. don't you think we should wait and stay with PC air?
Cap: nah, it's cool enough up here. I told the gate to board

We did this at XJT on the ERJ side all the time. EDCT times to EWR are a game that you've got to be near the runway to play. I can't tell you the number of time we'd be sitting in a pad out by the end of the runway when we'd be told, "Jetlink, we've got a hole for you if you can be out in the next 2 minutes."

That's sad.

That's sad.

I can't wait to upgrade this summer so I have an official say on how these scenarios play out. Nothing like having to run around the JFK Terminal 4 desperately trying to find a red coat because your pax have been on board for 3 hours over lunch time in a CRJ with no food and you're running out of water. All because the captain is more interested in Angry Birds than dealing with the issues at hand... Drives me insane!

Blow the slide, CPZ-style! :)
