Maybe on the Mustang and possibly a contributing factor on the Corsair, but how do you explain that every Corsair makes that distinctive sound?

That and people closely associated with Vought Aircraft and the Corsair (including the lead test pilot Boone Guyton) point to the wing root air intakes as the source of the highly distinctive whistle of the Corsair.

Over the years I've seen plenty of "definitive" determinations, just like the one linked earlier, and many conflicting with one another, so I'm just content to smile, shrug, and enjoy the sound at this point.
