Ameriflight

Dear Freight Dawgs,

I am about to join your ranks! Figure that charter is not for me due to scheduling reasons.

I was sent a video interview link today. I would like to find out especially from those who are current employee at Ameriflight or who was there just a few years ago what life was like.

The amazing, the good, the bad and the ugly and all.

My focus will be more on mx and compliance with regulations. I will put up with a lot of crap as long as it does not affect safety. I won't complain that tacos around SLC are not authentic, crew apartment is icky, crew car about to run out of gas, etc, can deal with all that.

If Ameriflight works out I would like to stay with them for a year and transfer base some (for fun, I want to spend a couple months flying IFR in the Northwest, then some out of SJU and stuff. )

I know there is an existing Ameriflight thread but it started back in 2012. Things have changed a lot since then.

I tried to stalk a few of you who said you were with Ameriflight and PM you individually but that is getting to be too labor intensive.

If you would rather discuss via PM please feel free.

Appreciate your help.

AMF is fine these days IMO. A LOT more conservative pilot groups and the management pilots have a lot more "leverage" against shenanigans trying to be pushed on by ops or upper management. Depends on the ACP though of course. Been there done that working under someone that doesn't understand finesse.

There may be pressure at some bases to "push it", but it's the pilot group that does it to themselves, particularly in OMA with rest and SLC with, well, everything. That base was going to be my special project if I ever came to full power. :) They're so desperate right now, and the management is so much better, you won't have to take any flack from anyone that matters these days.

Ameriflight was great for me and many others. Some haven't had a great time, but their base was indeed not very good at the time most likely. Different times for sure. These days, they need every pilot they can get, and will go out of their way to keep them at least kind of happy. :)

Including hitting power lines ;)

I would stay away from Ameriflight. They pay less than all of the other UPS feeder companies.
They do? I know that used to be the case, but I thought the updated pay scales pretty much put everyone around the same.

Well don't take a job with them. I don't want to start a debate about Ameriflight but if you're looking to avoid a place that doesn't do everything by the book, well hmmm yea....

They've gotten better in recent years...MX is still a problem though.

A friend was based in Portland and did not have major complaints about mx, just little things here and there.
Portland is the best base I flew out of MX wise. ABQ (my base) was average and PHX was terrible, so unfortunately ymmv depending on who's in charge of that specific mx base.

As a guy who's been to all but one of the bases, some are a lot better than others with mx, so it all depends on your base.

I was under the impression that AMF is paying better than all of the feeders... If you get into type rated equipment at AMF (which is usually only within 6 months of arrival these days), you can make some really good bucks.

I really enjoyed my time there, some things are the "is what it is" deal. Some things you'll have to out your foot down for, whereas others are more of an annoyance, but the airplane can still fly just fine without (e.g. deferrals). Personally, I never delt with anything that was illegal. It's great experience, fun flying, and a great job to learn the ropes.

I thought they were the highest paying ones too. The money one can make in the type rated stuff these days is no joke.
