737 Max compared to Airbus NEO

I'm still very much conditioned to reach up and move the switch to intercom whenever I have something to say.
On the 170 we just move the PTT downwards to mute it. I'd been coughing a lot from allergies/whatnot and found myself, almost every time even in a cold dark airplane at the gate with no headset on, muting the hot mic every time I cough.

Let's compare them from a rational perspective. Which one makes more yankee greenbacks? Winner. Oooooh, it's TERRIBLE for the driver-subject in the jumpseat! Data point noted, now tell us why we should care. Will it prevent the Subject from operating the aviation appliance in the future? No? Why are we even talking about this?

With 4,400 UNFILLED 737 orders and 5,500 UNFILLED A320 orders, I *really* don't think they're going to get any sort of deal. It's not like this is 2002 and they're just trying to keep their lights on.

Alaska will certainly get a deal, if they so choose to capitalize on the opportunity - competition is a beautiful thing. Airbus now has a foot in the door at a legacy Boeing customer - they will fight tooth and nail to keep that foot in the door, while Boeing will do all they can to force/keep Airbus out. Couple the newfound competition with the 737-MAX 9's struggle vs. the A321neo and both OEM's have a real reason to fight for this. It's only one customer, sure, but I fully expect Alaska to have best-in-class offers from both OEM's.

I wouldn't confuse "dire straits" leverage, ala 2002, with true leverage from competitive bidding. The former is a one-time benefit - the latter is an ongoing benefit to extract value from. Delta has been remarkable in extracting value from competitive bidding since their bankruptcy.

In the RJ sim we often wouldn't wear headsets. My hand would still go to the PTT when I had something to say.

I have yet to have one NH say anything about, "back on the ___" or "back at___."

Guess all the cool NHs are going to the 88.

Usually it's when they dick with he VS knob trying to "smooth out" the level off, when I'm not looking, and they're near ALT* (capture), it enters the mode and then the bus say "Eeew K you stupid Eh'merry'CAN" and it blows the altitude.

Remember I'm DTW so I get all the Compass guys with old pre-airline tribal knowledge about the bus and bidding, isn't that right @ClarkGriswold? :)

Wait, so the surrender ship does the same level off crap as the 88 if you touch it right before your altitude? Back on the ER...

It ain't me teaching this, since it doesn't work in the 175 either.

But that doesn't stop guys from trying.

Back in my day, you had to press "alt slt" if you wanted the FD to stop at the number you spun, like a crippled driver with a spinny arm thingie, in to the window. You airline rookies couldn't handle it, I'm sure.

Oh, and if you're doing more than 1500fpm when (if) it decides to capture, secure all loose articles and prepare for burn.

Boeing had the best damn airplane in the world, and that was the 757!. Why the hell didn't they modify it to a more updated standard? Boeing could rule the world with that airplane. Instead there is this under-powered, under-winged, under-braked 757 wanna-be called the A321. And this tirade is being written by an Airbus pilot.

Boeing screwed up, and it wasn't the B737 that they messed up; it's not putting the money into the 757 and upgrading it!

Here endith the ranting.

The 757 is a good airplane but is expensive to operate. The A321 does almost everything it does but at a significant cost advantage.

What killed the 757 was money, or lack of it.

Yet, the plane is such a money maker, Delta is im the process of pulling 10 out of the desert and spending the money on heavy checks because the 321s and 737-900 just can't deliver the numbers promised.

My chieftain has pitch mode, altitude hold, and glideslope. Altitude select? Vertical speed? Witchcraft!

le dehavilland does the same thing
"looks like yer fiddlin with the wrong knob eh?" *whizzes through altitude* "catch er if you can, dumb yank"

I think the button said alt sel at one point in time, but after 1.2 million frustrated punches it's just a white light and hard to discern (without using deductive reasoning on the rest of the unmangled flight guidance buttons)

There are certain missions that only the 75 can do. IMO, getting rid of the tooling to produce it is the biggest mistake Boeing has ever made. With the advances in engine technology, just re-engining it and giving it an all glass cockpit would have made it an instant success.

757-NEO

Instead, companies are stuck pulling old airframes out of the desert, and making do. There simply isn't anything on the market right now, that's new, that'll do what a 75 does.
