Space Cruiser Yamato (StarBlazers) themed jet

For you nerdy folks who remember cartoons from the 80s, there was a cartoon called "StarBlazers" (the one with the giant battleship flying in space). Originally a Japanese series called "Space Cruiser Yamato", it's being rebooted in Japan and as part of that effort, Skymark Airlines painted a theme 737-800 which is going into service on 2/25.

Pictures of the actual plane in the paint shop:

I learned my command style from captain Harlock, space pirate.

Always thought the Yamato looked particularly phallic.

Although, it is a Japanese cartoon.

I think I was in 4th or 5th grade when that came out, so probably 1979 or 1980. Loved coming home from school to watch that before going out to play baseball or football or war with my brother and our friends. I used to draw that stuff all the time too. I still remember the theme song pretty well.

Oh, I'm in love. Can't tell you how much I was into Star Blazers as an elementary school kid. Even just seeing Nova there on the side of the jet makes me wanna go all cosplay Derek Wildstar or Alex Wildstar.

I always thought Alex was the cooler brother, anyway.

The 2199 remake was pretty awesome....the live action, not so much.

I did manage to catch Shin Godzilla though...it was....different.

Subs before dubs!

Dude! The live action was AWESOME!!!!!! It was fairly close to the original storyline. WTH is wrong with you?

Sooo basically you drew dicks everywhere?
No. What? Wow, that came out from nowhere.
Spaceships, planets, different characters, lasers, missiles, bombs, etc. We were pretty big Star Blazers geeks. I even made a comic strip of my own Star Blazers story.
We were/are big WWII buffs, especially WWII aviation, and this was basically WWII in space as far as we were concerned. Plus, we lived at Yokosuka Naval Air Station a few years before that and this show reminded us of Japan and the Navy.

There's a road called Yamato Blvd where I live and every time I drive past I hear this song:

I'd own the whole 2199 series on BluRay, but it is wicked expensive.

That was probably my favorite show as a kid. I've got three seasons I think on DVD. Wayched 2199. Saw the live action show a couple years ago. So now there's a new reboot? I'm in.

And along comes @Maximillian_Jenius in THREE….TWO… ONE…. :)

I'm of course more partial to the Super Dimensional Macross series. But Space Cruiser Yamato is definitely on fleek as the kids are saying these days.

@Richman

I love the new 2199 remake intro. But I think that the Macross intro is probably the best intro done for a anime series. Ever! It's just so dramatic and space opera-like.

What ever happened to the live action Robotech?

The same could be asked about the live action Voltron movie...

True. Although I would rather see just about anyone other than Toby Maguire as Rick Hunter.

Have you seen the Netflix Voltron reboot? Its not bad. Its not great but its fun to kill time with during airport appreciation time.

Its on my favorites! About to finish season two. I think its awesome!

Toby Maguires career is dead, so no worries. And I agree!

Haha I just said it because a post or 2 before yours it was mentioned how phallic-like the spaceships are

Eh...it's a bit campy in bits but I like it. I don't like what a clown they have turned Coran into. In the originals he was the wise older man providing guidance to the princess. This new guy is a clown and would never be accepted as a sage.

Don't want to spoil the season finale but it sets up season 3 very nicely.
