Air Force, Air Lines eyeballing shortage and 1500 hour rule

Student loans are just about the only instrument of debt that can't be relieved through a bankruptcy.

Pretty popular misconception. If you're talking about student loans in general. Gov't student loans I know nothing about...BUT, private student loans, say through Key Bank are absolutely dismissable in a court of law. Axe me how I know.

I'm a mere retired EWO, so I can't say who is more God-like, a fighter pilot or an airline captain.
But after 20 years in the USAF and 20 in the non-defense software industry, I could write a yuge book containing everything the average three or four button USAF General doesn't know or understand about the private sector.

We have a few current/former Navs and NFOs here, I think you may be the only EWO-type of them though. I'm somewhat indoc'd as a FECOC grad, lol.

Ravens, I see?

I don't disagree with the debt forgiveness part being irresponsible, but some of the student loans terms are pretty ridiculous. Some of these student loan companies need to be reigned in.
Why did the student agree to it? It's not fair that I busted my butt, got up at 2am, drove 2 hours to throw bags, then drove home 2 hours to flight instruct 6 days per week, just to have a shot an an interview at a regional, then get paid $19.02/hr and no pay during training, no pay for uniforms, no pay for anything. yeah I know. You had it worse. Debt forgiveness my rear. If they get it forgiven, I want all my monthly payments back for my student loans too.

I also had to walk up hill both ways to the flight line..... :stir:

I never said anything for debt forgiveness. In fact, I said that that would be irresponsible. But the unwillingness of a lot of these loan companies to work with people because they know that no matter what, they'll get paid is hurting people's lives and putting people on the street.

Let me be crystal clear. Debt forgiveness shouldn't be an option. But adjusting repayment terms should be more proactive.

Truth.

"Dear financial advisor, I'd like to take out a $100,000 student loan to study Liberal Arts at Pepperdine, does this make financial sense?"

Ah yes, "miracle flights."

I flew Hawaiian from Phoenix to Honolulu a couple years ago. I swear there were no fewer than 30 people lined up in wheelchairs waiting to get on that plane in PHX. From one heaven’s waiting room to another.

Naturally, none of them needed assistance getting off the plane, even with the potential long walks at HNL.

So it keeps the wheelchair contractor people at the airports gainfully employed? :D

I'll offer a different viewpoint:

You can make horrible decisions, destroy livelihoods, and completely default on loans by making horrible decisions as a company manager. Our corporate bankruptcy laws will completely absolve you through "debt forgiveness."

At the same time, young adults are not given debt forgiveness because of their educational decisions.

I believe America should be a place where restarts are allowed.

Further, lenders should lend differently against different educational programs. The current model doesn't do that.

Just imagine what America would be like today if Trump was never allowed any debt forgiveness

Pepperdine is a top 50 university. If you intend to attend a top professional or PhD program after, this would be an incredibly lucrative investment.

Unless, of course, you think Harvard Law or Michigan Medicine commonly admit graduates from Cal State Channel Islands.

(Shots fired, @Autothrust Blue)

I'll go take my online master's and be relegated to a continuous life of "just not Tier One/Ivy/whatever enough," thanks.

Although my undergrad education was sufficiently inexpensive to allow me to fly, which does pay the bills.
