Flying again for first time in a years-what apps do I need?

Instead of carrying that all around you can use foreflight!

I once was one that said 'batteries never die on a chart' until I had to manage a whole Jepp subscription.
Only if I have to. If the Army didn't require me to have a cell phone in 2014, I'd still be mobile-free, with just my land-line. Our culture relies on technology too much.
I don't like computers, and they don't like me.
A reliance on computers tends to make people less intelligent, and more dependent. There are lot of high school and college kids who have difficulty doing simple math in their head, and "need" a calculator. Besides, Apple's stuff is way overpriced. I can't justify it.
To each their own though. I'm not comfortable with computers, and don't feel compelled to be. As soon as I get used to one, it will need to be replaced with a new version that I'll need to learn all over again, and then the next version will come out, and then the next one, then the next one, etc. Ain't nobody got time fo' that! Not me anyhow, I got better things to do with my time and money.

*red bull does not actually give you wings, red bull assumes no responsibility for personal injuries sustained while attempting flight, do not taunt red bull, do not look directly at red bull, contains no actual bull.
WHAT?!?!!
Those lying sons of.... I'm suing!

In a strange twist of fate, I won an iPad 4th generation black, 42 GB something something something in a raffle drawing today at work. Couldn't really hear clearly over all the noise and chatter. I should get it in a couple of weeks.
I'm still a 'batteries never die on a chart' kinda guy, but we'll see. I can have both, I guess. I've never had an Apple product, so I'll have to figure out how to use it. Probably still gonna have a map, ruler, and e6b with me though. It'll give me peace of mind if nothing else.

I don't meet many people of ANY age who are good at doing mental math. I don't think it's an age or technology thing.

I also know quite a few "old guys" who have bothered to learn some technology. Seems to be helpful to them.

Welcome back, congrats!

Which apps? Buffalo wings are always a great start, but if you're feeling a little festive, perhaps the bar has some spring rolls with Gochuchang sauce. That really starts the evening off!

Oh… wait.

Foreflight is all one needs....and the amount of updates they have on it still amazes me today. I also like AeroWeather and MyRadar personally.

If you like paper use paper otherwise no reason to fight against something that clearly makes flying more safe. No argument around that.

You can pay for synthetic vision on it and I'm pretty sure I saw the new update this week has audible warnings under 500 ft AGL. Crazy good technology.
