Jumpseat ?

Is the myIDtravel website the primary way to list for a jumpseat?

Is there any guide out there regarding how the whole listing for a jumpseat works?

It's different for each airline. American you list online as you mentioned then check in at the gate. Southwest you call a number to list and get a record locator, and again check in at the gate.

I will though :D

Is it sad that I get treated better by Southwest and Delta than I do my own airline? :bang:

I still wish the entire jumpseat system from US Airways had survived the merger... :(

I know this is a complicated answer but can I ask why your union isn't all over this? Seems like it's really a major issue with all the commuters...

Complicated probably doesn't scratch the surface:D

I think that the implementation of the jumpseat reservation system for AA pilots took up a lot of time and IT resources. Really didn't give an opportunity to change much else. That and at the time, the APA BOD was heavily entrenched with LAA members who didn't want to change anything.

Remember, up until recently, AA planes would leave jumpseaters at the gate with plenty of empty seats because of an archaic system that limited the number of pilots they could carry from an airline to the number of jumpseats installed on the airplane. LAA was never commuter friendly because most of them have never commuted.

I'll repeat this again, as I do in any thread that ends up dealing with AA jumpseat listings:

MyIDTravel and the Reservations phone number are the preferred methods for listing; however, if you can't make a listing in advance, gate agents are REQUIRED to make a listing for you at the gate.

Sounds like a mess. I hope long-term you guys can get it sorted out a little better. I was unaware that they had to make you a listing at the gate. That is great info. Several times I have ended up in a bad commute where I missed a few options and I never would run over to AA because I thought I had to list online. Thanks for that! And Merry Christmas!
