Again!..and so it continues. Thoughts?

Effective immediately, Envoy has increased our new hire pilot signing bonus to up to $22,100, ensuring new Envoy First Officers can earn up to $60,000 in their first year on the job.

“When you add up Envoy’s increased signing bonus, our $20,000 First Officer retention bonus and guaranteed flow-through to American Airlines, without any further interview – it’s clear that our pilots are among the most highly compensated in the industry,” said Ric Wilson, Vice President Flight Operations. “On day one at Envoy, and throughout their flying career.”

New hire pilots who choose to operate Envoy’s legacy fleets of Embraer 140/145 and Bombardier CRJ-700 aircraft will now receive $22,100 on day one. Our new hire signing bonus for pilots choosing to operate Envoy’s newest fleet of Embraer 175 aircraft has also increased, to $17,100. And, all new First Officers will enjoy a $20,000 retention bonus following one year of service, paid in quarterly $2,500 increments.

Captains at Envoy, who are already well on their way to a guaranteed job at American Airlines, also receive a $7,500 retention bonus, payable in three $2,500 increments.

“Our ability to attract and retain the most talented pilots has been critical to our success,” added Wilson. “Hiring more new pilots allows us to compete for additional flying and provides swifter career progression for our First Officers looking to upgrade to Captain, and our Captains who are in line to flow-through to the mainline.”

In addition to pay and bonuses, Envoy offers an unmatched total compensation package, including:

  • American Airlines Group Profit Sharing
  • 401(k) Plan with company match
  • Free personal travel on American’s global network – at the same boarding priority as mainline employees
  • Life, health and disability benefits
  • Preferred crew bases in Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago, with paid hotels for training and commuting. (New York LaGuardia base opening in January.)
  • Generous commuter policy
  • Company paid iPads, Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check
  • Free membership in the Known Crewmember (KCM) program to speed you through security
  • A direct career path to a flying career with American Airlines without any additional interview required

I've tried asking around here the general QOL at Envoy but can't get an answer. Same with other pilots I've talked to. The only response I get is "American airbus in 5 years" "look at our sign on bonus" but still can't find someone's opinion on how it is to work there. Are the pilots happy? Upset? Do they like their work rules? Are you reserve for a long time? Days off? Etc.

There is plenty of information out there about QOL at the various WOs. On here and in the respective APC threads. You just have to be able to differentiate between the recruiters and the line pilots.

I was at Eagle/envoy 2011-2015. 3.5 out of 4 years on reserve, bankruptcy contract followed by more concessions make up my experience at Eagle. If I was still on property I would maybe be able to upgrade next year. I missed all of the retention bonuses. I sat A LOT of ready reserve, lots of 4, 5, 6 days of reserve flying. Managements stance on anything contrary to the contract (blatant or minute) was fly it and grieve it.

This is my experience and I haven't been on property for nearly a year and a half. I was able to get out of the regionals and took an opportunity with a LCC. It is completely night and day versus the regionals. I really have no complaints about my current position.

Eagle was a good stepping stone but I am extremely happy that I got out.

Long reserve time, and crappy uncommutable schedules is mostly what I read online.

Which is what I've read from a small amount so I don't know if it's entirely true. I know a majority of my colleagues going to Envoy purely for pay now. Literally that's all I hear. Pay. Is that the only thing that's good about Envoy? When I ask people about QOL, rules, reserve etc. I get typical answers about "same as every airline" and "you won't be here forever so who cares". Lol.

I'm getting a different approach from some for picking another carrier where a huge amount of line pilots are extremely happy, with minimal complaints and almost the same movement to the left seat. I guess it all depends on what you want.

It's been bad here the past few years with QOL and we are still digging ourselves out of the staffing hole but with the pay increase we are finally getting butts into the seats and that will help move people up the list and off of reserve. I'm cautiously optimistic that the worse is behind us now and every month should get better as we correct our staffing shortage.

For perspective, new hires at PSA have primarily been guys coming from other regionals from what I hear. Yes, the money the WOs are offering is enticing, but most of the pilots headed to PSA are doing so because of the low reserve time and the schedule flexibility of our lineholders. I'll be off from the 23rd until well into the new year thanks to our SAP. No, it is not the same at every airline, and where would you rather be stuck if the industry takes a dump next year...

It's pretty tough to get the 175 right?

I have heard a rumor they will be taking the Compass flying out of LAX soon, that's all 175. I doubt the 175 is a bad choice anywhere right now with all of them new ones coming online.

That rumor has been around for quite a while. I'll believe it when I see it. AA seems to have its WOs do all of the flying from the Midwest eastward and non-WOs do the west coast lift. I do think that Envoy will eventually take all of the Republic AA flying and probably start picking up slack from Mesa sooner than later. I think Piedmont is going to get the TSA and ASA 50-seat flying, while PSA continues to pick up AWAC's slack and perhaps eventually some of Mesa's flying. But I can see that going to SkyWest or Envoy before PSA.
