Crash Investigators Pan Their Casting as Villains in ‘Sully’

I saw it last night and really enjoyed the movie. I'm sure there's some small things everyone will have an opinion on, but overall it was really well done.

How was the flying in-between building scenes, that looked pretty awesome on the trailer? I had no idea they went through lower manhattan on their way to landing south on the Hudson. So awesome. #Sully4Prez.

When you see the movie you'll understand why that scene is there

To be at LEAST on par or near as flawless as Airport(1970).

This. People seem to remember the sequels which were pure drek, but the original was one damn fine piece of cinema, with a surprising amount of technical accuracy, even by pilot standards.

Filmed in MSP, with NWA folks as extras.

Got nominated for a whole raft of Academy Awards and Helen Hays won Best Supporting Actress.

I'd post the trailer, but, ah, trailers from the 70's are...um, different.

And from a controller standpoint as well. The producers used real controllers as extras, and the tower scenes were filmed in LAX tower. The "ground controller" was my facility manager back in the mid '80s to early '90s, and he still gets a residual check every year.

You can totally spoiler burn me though...to be honest...Id appreciate it. I won't be giving the Sully Institute of Specially Trained Pilots any of my funds.

Dear NTSB,

It's a movie, not a documentary.
Yeah, you can't really make geese the antagonist. They just make geese sounds. Not very engaging.

I just saw it this afternoon and have to agree it was very nicely done and (as someone with precisely zero Airbus knowledge) seemed pretty technically correct. Good amount of drama while keeping it factual and straightforward. As mentioned above the flying through Manhattan makes sense when you see it.

They also edited out some of the stuff that was anachronistic in the trailer - no new American paint jobs, all the united planes say Continental, etc. Even the radar scopes still had BTA for the express jet flights.

Go see it for the Eckhart/Skiles moustache if nothing else.

When I saw the plane through Manhattan in the preview, I knew what that part would be about.

Little intuition, but mostly common sense can figure out what scene that is a part of.

Just saw this on Facebook lol

How about the opening scene of the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). The scene opens with the label of "Air Traffic Control, Indianapolis Center" . However, at 2:18, when the controller calls on the landline to the "45th Recon Wing", he asks the controller there "this is Indianapolis Center, do you have any test operations in Restricted Area 2508?" Problem is, R-2508 is in California, north of the former-George AFB and, within and north of Ft Irwin. This is well outside the area of responsibility of ZID.

In reality, this scene was filmed at ZLA in Palmdale, Ca; and the blooper was never corrected.
