I think going to VX would be good for someone looking for a short term way to get ETOPS and LCC experience.
kilo said:ETOPS experience seems mythical among the field of regional candidates aiming for the big international carriers, but I feel like there isn't enough evidence to support the commonly assumed idea that it makes 'the difference' for anyone aiming at majors, much less does it justify a gamble on a carrier whose very existence is tenuous at best.
I think going to VX would be good for someone looking for a short term way to get ETOPS and LCC experience. I would not go to VX if you want a long term stable job. There is no guarantee that AS will keep any or all of the VX dispatchers very long beyond the single operating certificate in early 2018. Even if they do, it means a move to SEA and likely stapling to the bottom of a long list.

Can I get a second opinion/confirmation in saying that posting was up for four hours and is already gone...?[/QUOTE
You are correct sir

They fly SFO-HNL and OGG, and LAX-HNL and OGG. Decent experience if you're looking for it, especially trying to send an A320 LAX-HNL fully loaded.![]()
What dispatch software does Alaska use?
Oh, it's got the gas. Carrying payload with the required fuel, well.... It's really the biggest reason we abandoned sending the -800's across the drink. We'd have had to block off all the center seats at least. In the winter, it's a one way trip with any payload at all...Ah OK, my bad. I had no idea they were in the Hawaii market. Actually, I had no idea an A320 had the *fuel capacity* to do that. But hey, if it works for them, good job. And yes, that would be some good ETOPS experience, even if it's not true long-haul international stuff.
VX dispatchers as of now are not union. There has not been anything said about what will happen to the VX dispatchers should the SFO center close but if it does, I imagine that they wont be getting DOH seniority on the AS list. Likely will be stapled if they are even offered jobs with AS.
So getting hired now is a good time to get hired by AS. It is likely that within a few years, you could have a bunch of people underneath you just from the merging of the two companies. Thats also not taking in account other hiring AS may need to do.
Compared to other mergers though, there wont be a need for a JCBA as there is no need to merge two different contracts into one. You may not get legacy or WN pay at AS and SEA may be higher cost than DFW or ATL but your seniority will likely be excellent in a few short years and AS is a good company to work for.
The caveat to this is if the AS union feels sorry for the non union VX dispatchers and does offer them DOH then you could be stuck at the bottom of a long list for a long time.
