Scott Kirby out as President of American Airlines...

The truth will come out eventually.

I want to know what he did to result in termination, if that is indeed what happened...

OR

I want to know what a happened to split up Parker and Kirby after 20 years.

I highly doubt he was terminated. People who succeed in those roles are highly strategic, and it is rarely about loyalty. Don't assume that there was a falling out. Besides, who actually chooses a CEO? It isn't one person.

20 years, 3 airlines, multiple bankruptcies, and the AA BoD makes a "succession" change one month from the biggest single event of the AA/US merger...

Something smells about this.

But in all honesty... sucks for United.

Track records in the airline industry aren't exactly stellar for those that have been around for 20 years. You do seem to be correct in that it seems to be a less than ideal situation for United. Time will tell...

Why is it less than ideal for United? Won't he be reporting to Munoz?

Yes, but for how long? There is only one reason he would leave AA. Is his philosophy going to change moving to United? Doubtful. Munoz has been great IMHO for United, but can he make Kirby a great successor?

Think he meant sucks for united pilots. Kirby is the guy who heads all negotiations, and he's the guy who asks for further scope concessions every time he hosts a town hall.

She meant overall. :D I don't know if he is all that bad for pilots. But, if his philosophy stays the same about customers and the low cost philosophy, United's customers aren't going to be happy. They are just starting to get a little happier. :p

I think the low cost thing is to fend off spirit in DFW. Unless your talking about low labor costs. Which he also enjoys :)

But trust me he is anti pilot. Every AA pilot loathes him.

Very anti pilot.

@Avgirl If your want to see just how bad he is for pilots, look at how the opinions of LAA pilots about Kirby have changed in just under 3 years.

Do pilots really like any of the major CEO's? I am guessing no...they all seem anti-pilot in some way or another?

United Pilots have a contract until 2021. There will be five years for everyone to figure out Kirby. I only see positive things coming from this.

Figures. United has like 12.5k pilots, will lose 3k or so in the next few years and wants to grow to 16k pilots. American has like 15k and will lose 7K or so to retirements in the next few years. 9K plus 7k = 16k at the new Unican Airways. Everyone at a United or American regional is stuck for another decade. Looks like the old career goal post is going to get moved again.

I reeeeeeeaaaaallllly hope you are wrong lol.

I was totally joking about AA and UAL merging, but for all our sake I hope that never happens.

Any of the current CEO's Max? Bastian has a reputation for being anti-pilot, too.

Don't take this as an insult, it's seriously not one. Like really. Maybe more of a compliment.

But my boyfriend knows and supports my decision to be a pilot. And all he knows about airplanes, is that they're often found at the airport, and that they fly. How they fly, he has no f-ing clue.

Magic maybe: Wingardium Leviosa he's a big Harry potter fan.

He's at work right now, but I bet if I asked him, he would have no clue who either Bastian, and that he's anti pilot. Or even who Munoz is.

Props go to you.

I do love Harry Potter as well. But, your boyfriend is not involved in the aviation industry in any shape or form. You are probably the only person he knows that flies. Major difference. Nor, is he surrounded by a lot of other people within the industry, or on his way to changing careers to work in the industry. I love Aviation because my Dad was a pilot - GA, but still. Flying on a jet is more fun to me than a trip to Disney. Probably more affordable. ;)
