OKC or commutable gigs

Coming up on the end of the pictometry season and I'm right around 940tt. I'll be right around 1,000 by May 15th. CSEL, IR, 1st class medical. I'll be getting my multi add-on when the season ends. I'm just seeing what options might be available out there because I'd prefer to come back home at the end of my contract rather than extending for an additional 5 months. I have a house in OK and don't really have the ability to move just yet. I'm looking for something in or around the OKC area or something that I would be able to commute to. Any suggestions/recommendations would be fantastic. This picto job has been the greatest job I've ever had. It's just a little too hard being away from the wife and my dogs for 5-8 months at a time. If you are low time and looking for hours then picto is the way to go.

You could try getting on with Air Associates of Kansas too as they do survey for Google. It's an 8 and 6 commutable so it's a pretty ideal balance for family life, but you won't build much time or make as much as you could elsewhere. Still the one friend I have that I trust quite a bit has flown for them has nothing, but good things to say about working for them even though I heard some questionable things online at times.

I just thought of AAK as I ran into a lot of their pilots back in the day in Tulsa who'd commute from there. It might not be too late to get on flying for a skydiving outfit for the summer too. There's one in Cushing and Shawnee.

Appreciate the info. I'm looking at everything I can. I may try to extend a few weeks here. I just need another 200 or so hours to meet the R-ATP mins. A friend of mine is trying to get me in contact with the people hiring for a pipeline pilot around the OKC/Tulsa area. Aerial survey is great, but flying from home would be fantastic. Again, thanks for all the suggestions.

Hey fellow SOONER! Did you find anything around the OKC area? I'm also a 2014 grad :p

I got on with an aerial survey vendor. I'm working on my multi add on now so hopefully my next stop is Skywest. There's a bunch of info on this forum with all the pros/cons and contact information for all the different companies. I was with Air America and I had an absolute blast. Got along with everyone really well and our CP was great to me. Got lots of hours and made a crap load of money.

NICE! So i guess you reached your RATP? Did you already interview with Skywest?

I'm still about 75 hours short, but I was told I could use the time in CTP and training towards my 1250. I can't interview with them until I have my multi. The checkride is scheduled for 7/27 so hopefully soon after that I'll interview.

You're really close! The picto job, do you know if it is possible to do the job commuting with your wife?

It's not really possible to commute. You're on the road for 7-8 months at a time. There are some that do have 8 days on, 6 days off type schedules but they don't get nearly as many hours. I got 2 weeks off with company paid travel. I was able to stop home twice on relocations.

But what I mean is if I can actually take my wife with me and have her tag along during the job. Of course on my dime...

That's not really an option. You bounce around way too much and most don't allow passengers or can't due to w&b issues. Having her come in and visit every now and then wouldn't be bad. My wife came to Houston twice, Brownsville, and Columbus.

Not yet. Still bouncing around with my lessons. Got back from my survey job with 1100+ total. Now I just need to add the multi and hope someone wants a 1150 hour pilot. How's Ameriflight going?

Start August 8th Indoc. You should send your papers in

I've thought about it. The only problem I have with that is OKC doesn't have Ameriflight here and I'm not really able to move. Do they have flight benefits on anyone? It's a 30 minute flight from OKC to DFW so if it's commutable then maybe.
