Envoy FO Training

Just received my pre-offer for envoy and was wondering what should I start studying so I'm ready before I go into training?

Study what they tell you to. If they didn't give you a new hire packet before training, I wouldn't study anything. These folks have been training new hires for a long time and they know what will get you through. Studying old gouges flows, and procedures, may help a little but those things can change quite frequently and may be outdated.

If they didn't give you any study materials then I would just relax and take time for yourself before the fire hose is turned on.

Make sure you take time to study with another person with flows and whatnot. That was a big help before going to sim with my partner.

Especially since a company like Envoy I've heard has a very rigorous and thorough training program. Only thing you'll really need on day one is a good attitude and the will to learn. Everything else will fall into place!

Yup!

Having the limitations down on day 1 will give you a good start. But that being said, they will teach you everything you need to know. It is up to you to study it and be able to regurgitate it. Get ready to drink from the proverbial firehose.

The problem is that Envoy is currently back to flying three different aircraft types, so studying limitations without knowing what aircraft you will be assigned to is asking for trouble.

Do new hires not know what airframe they will be on before they get to class? Or is that not how it works? I'm ignorant I guess. My airline only flies the CRJ.

Recently some classes have been told in advance that they would be on the 175, they used to wait until day 1 of indoc and the class would pick aircraft and/or base available by class seniority.

Traditionally, no. They are posted and picked in seniority order based on age at Envoy during day 1.

The only reason they are doing this now, when they can, is so people actually show up to class.

Yeah, I read that people were stating that if they don't get the 175, they weren't showing up for class. Also on another site, I read that when CFI's didn't get the 175, they resigned.
It's a buyers market out there.

Although, Envoy is doing this to themselves. Once you get on a jet, you are unable to bid to another aircraft type unless you upgrade or get displaced to it. I don't blame new hires for not wanting to be on the bottom of the list of a dying airplane.

Yes, they've managed to get a few more new hires than they were getting without the new airplane being offered.

I would suggest not taking this advice. If you study limitations for the wrong airframe you've loaded yourself up for no reason. Also, don't study other airlines training materials for whatever jet you are awarded after class starts. All that does is mess you up.

Here's more advice: don't spend too much time at the Euless yacht club.

Get your home life squared away. Fix the AC in your wife's car, replace the garbage disposal that is constantly clogging, ect.

They will give you the information you need when you need it. Having the home front secure will allow you to focus on learning the material you need.

I may be a jerk for having my wife do this, but I tell her not to tell me about things that may stress me out while I'm in training or on the road and either handle them herself or give me a list when I'm done. My goal is to learn or not kill myself and others because I'm worried about a pipe bursting or the washing machine not working at home.
