Shoulder Harnesses

I don't know why but for some reason putting an 11th seat in the caravan and leaving the copilot empty just isn't done here. I don't mind having pax there most of the time, but explainin the seat belt got a little old.
Pretty sure that's a part 135 reg for seat count... could be wrong. Old stuff goes away quickly sometimes.

We could have 9 up in the back, copilot seat empty, but if you put someone in the copilot seat and had 9 pax one of the other seats had to be taken down.

I'm not sure I understand, I've got a couple thousand hours putting the shoulder harness on prior to spinning an engine (all GA so no pushback per se) and I've never thought twice about it...are the jets not equipped with inertial reels or something?
...my FAA approved checklist requires I put them on, and I'm required to use the FAA-approved checklist by 14 CFR 121.315, which is kinda the end of the discussion on it.

(sadly)

Yeah what I was trying to say was that to my little brain it doesn't seem like it's a sad thing as its what I've always done in aircraft so equipped, wasn't sure why it's such a big deal in a jeeeeeet.

This is the sort of "deal" that is mandated by Flight Standards (ours, not the Fuzz, but by extension the Fuzz).

It's not, it shouldn't be, but that's the way we've, erm, always done it.

Booster seat on a 727?

What's that?

I put my harness on after the before takeoff checklist and take it off once around 5000 or so. It then comes back on during vectors and off as I'm making contact with ground.

They are... Mostly. But they aren't overly comfortable some times, and during push and engine start you often times are reaching for stuff (manuals, acars printer, paperwork etc) all over the cockpit and it's much easier to not be restrained T the shoulders. Plenty of time to put the shoulder straps on for taxi.

Bingo! It doesn't take long with all the reaching around in the bigger airliner cockpits before they become a hindrance.

One of my USAF IFT students when I was a CFI realized that he didn't have to have his harness on in cruise. He would so proudly remove the harness at top of climb and then put it back on at top of descent.

According to the regs, you don't have to wear it if it interferes with your ability to reach instruments in the cockpit right?

Ours tend to bind and get stuck in the seat when we take them off. It's a pain in the ass to fix when putting them back on... And our weekly flight is Only 40 minutes each way...

I just leave them on.

I didn't know people had a problem with wearing the shoulder harness. I wear it the whole flight, of course I fly a Phenom so it's a short time.

I'm 6'5". I can't even get my feet on the rudder in a Phenom (the panel interferes with my knees...or vice versa).

And I'm not fat, either. And I still consider the things uncomfortable. Necessary, yes. Uncomfortable, you bet.

I flew with a captain on the 7ER (@Seggy, do you know what that is? :) ) that literally couldn't reach the gear handle while seated. He'd grab at it like a hungry baby, then loosen his belt in order to reach it.

Then on my legs, I'd just offer to raise it myself.

SO CUTE! D'awwwwww!
I moved the flap handle twice while I was the pilot flying. Once when we had some sort of really odd communications thing going on up front on the Brasilia, and once (from 3 to 2) when the captain accidentally set 3 instead of 2 and the speed was "inappropriate" for 3. Both times felt rather strange. "Voice commands inoperative!"

1.) Tap captain on shoulder.
2.) Point to flap handle.
3.) Move flap handle.
