Republic airlines

hello everyone.
Getting to that stage where I need to choose the regional to work for!
Anyone with republic, any info on QOL, junior bases and upgrade times ?

Is there any particular reason why you want to go to Republic?

$48-55K first year pay, a ton of bases, many livable, Ejet, ooh and highest long term pay in the regional industry if i end up @ a Regional for 20yrs due to unforeseen circumstances. ...DUH ;)

But seriously, those are the reasons i'm also. considering.

Well most recent upgrade award for Sept shows the junior capt a Aug 2012 hire. There still a few more senior 145 guys that will need to upgrade before that number comes down significantly.

Junior bases seems like EWR, PIT, PHL, and even Chicago but that all changes monthly. There's a saying here....there's guys that commute and there's guys that will. They open and close bases left and right here.

40-55k first years seems a bit high. With a sign on bonus and massive open time pick up you might be able to get close to those figures but even then it would be difficult.

The problem with picking up lots of open time is that is screws your schedule for the next month. So one month you would be able to have 130 credit hours but the next month you would be denied any trips because of 117 rules. So best case is you would alternate months of picking up.

Also to pick that much time up you would have about 8 days off. If you are commuting to one of our wonderful out station bases that can dwindle to 4 or so at home because every trip starts at O dark thirty and ends damn near midnight.

QOL on the Rjet isn't bad. Sitting in hotels suck but goes with the territory of being an airline pilot. So you have to make an effort to get out and stay busy to keep your sanity.

The old contract sucked. Really really bad. There are plenty of people here who hate this new contract but to me I can actually keep a roof over my head, student loans paid, and eat again without having to work so hard at a second job.

It's not bad here really. I don't see how it could be any better anywhere else honestly. But one thing to keep in mind is we are in Bankruptcy.

@Bankruptcy concerns. So were U.S Air & AMR & UAL, and a bunch of regionals. Some absorbed. But overall the industry is still afloat.

All look rosey now, but like the shooting today @ DFW Love Field reminds me, it only takes one major terror act. One grave Russian, Chinese, or North Korean agression. One Economic downturn which we are technically due for.

Majors will slow hiring or shrink capacity... I dnt expect this industry to be rosy for the next 10yrs.

I'm looking @ long term contracts & flying, Capt pay @ the 12 - 20yrs marker just in case i get stuck (i dont have a crystal ball). So position my self for long term happiness. Base options, QOL, a safe and enjoyable aircraft to operate, great office space and comfort should be important also.

Some peoplw get hyper to hopefully fly a 777 or 747 or B767 or A300, or a Gulfstream... but people can't get excited and hyper to fly the newer E-170/175/190/195, or CRJ 900 vs a Puddle jumper or Dash 8 or Emb120? Thinking of words that flow with FOH comes to mind. (Love Emb120 ans Sabb BTW, but how does that make me marketable longterm if i want to fly for an international carrier? Hell even if it is domestic! Who cares! Go where-ever makes me happy & fly what U want to fly if it is available. Just don't stab other pilot groups in the process! Its a Job. Show me the money. If your offering it to fly something better & more enjoyable i'll take it! I have worked plenty hard jobs in my life time. Started from the absolute dirt bottom! Long tough road to where I am in life.

Things are different this day & age from what I see compared to 10yrs ago. I gladly accept the new reality of the industy. Iwant the NEWEST SHINNY DEVICE. So be it, but why shouldn't I??? I'm not a 21yr old, did not get mom & daddy's help. I'm just passing the mid 30's checkpoint now. I respect the journey.

I'd still love to get my hands on a 787 dreamliner. As along as I get paid adequately. There is a difference this time around vs SJS of the past. Pay/liviable income at the regionals are looking better (with the exception of Mesa Airlines)

I can't believe the complaints i hear this day & age from pilots dogging other pilots who want to fly newer & bigger regional aircrafts like the EJet, or talk crap about pilots who seek fast upgrade. It's laughable! Do what makes you happy, or what you think is best for your future and family @mile_hi ...

I thought a few months ago there was a thread talking about how Republic pilots wanted to prove a point and tank the company because of the piss poor management...? No?

Just because they pay a few bucks more than other regionals doesn't mean they're the top dog.

Also @ScorpionStinger, just because some of us are in our early 20's doesn't mean mommy and daddy helped...lol. I don't understand why people are so grumpy at younger pilots and giving them all negative stereotypes...

Pay isn't everything. Don't forget work rules in the contract if you're gonna be stuck somewhere. And republic closes bases all the time. I think GSO was or will be he latest victim. We have tons of ex republic dudes here at Compass. All are glad they left

Before or after the new contract?

It's not the greatest but I really can't see how any other regional is all that better.

I did happen to pull down about 11k last month (if you count vacation buy back). Highly unlikely to ever do it again but still, is there any other place at the regional level a 4th year FO could have done any better?

I guess if I upgraded sooner somewhere else and worked as hard maybe. It is what it is.

Well the LBO or bankruptcy fiasco which improved wages to the top of the industry was voted down, with a strong voice by the pilot group. Remember???? Then Bedford came out again with another offer with improved work rules they wanted.... Outcome, the contract you see now was approved strongly by the pilot group.

So yes, I'm pretty sure Republic is top 3..... Classes are full, upgrade time decreasing but can be better, same with SkyWest. So yeah, I think it does make Republic top dog, as well as Endevor's $23K/yr bonus for everyone on in the pilot group for the next 3-4yrs.

Grumpy, lol... No stereotypes from me, plenty of hard working young 21-24yr old pilots working multiple jobs to make their dream a reality working as they go, finishing their degree as they go. On the other side of the spectrum, look at ATP's demographic, 6 months, 0 to hero... (I'm a bit jealous, wish I had the credit for a $45K - $60K loan at the age of 23-25yrs. I'm glad folks got it good, i really am. This is what makes America so beautiful. I had a hard time figuring out how to afford my dreams just after finishing college and still owing Stafford/FedLoan). It is what it is, life. No regrets, i'll be debt free in 14 months tho (minus my mortgage).

I wish I could say the same. I'll be debt free in 20-25 years probably...lol.

All I can say is thank goodness for fedloan income repayment...otherwise I would have no money to eat on a CFI salary and pay what they "expect"...aka a second rent payment.

My honest best advice I can give you is to get done with CFI'ing as quickly as possible and get on with one of those regionals that "pay a few bucks more" and put it towards the loan. Put as much as you can till it hurts. Reducing the minimum payments are doing nothing but making you a debt slave to interest.

I left aviation for the above perspective @ the regionals. Could not afford $23-$25K/yr salary. In 2007-2008 i could gone on to become a 250-300TT hrs FO like many were doing. Waited to complete my 4yr degree full time. Economy took a dump. Worked $10-12/hr aviation jobs after college since nobody was hiring in my city, including night Security Guard to help pay towards my 1st semester Master degree program.

I just read an article last week during an interview with some Major airline executive i think Kirby of American Airlines. Said that their biggest worry right now is the unknown. Not knowing how bad the next crisis will affect their strategic plans. How it will affect their networks, how high will oil prices go next. How fast will they need to cut capacity or shrink, and where, how will that effect investors and their bottomline. That these are their biggest worries and thoughts that would keep him up at night

With restructuring of financial obligations & leases, I think Republic will come out a stronger carrier, than they are now. They're recent deals and negotiations are being approved by Judge Lane, the company is not touching pilots contract. RJET was headed towards being broke, they were not broke when they went into BK court. The company in MHO will be a stronger company financially, and in a better position than their peers.

RJET and other regional carriers' mgmt did help contribute to the "race to the bottom" culture that has lead to the current state of the industry (being short of pilots willing to work for substandard mimimal wages and work rules). FFD is a royal pain and way of doing business. Their is no alternative, they had to play by the rules major carriers created.

OP @mile_hi go where their is longevity & pay, QOL, and bases you want. Hope for a Major or an International flying carrier with "Heavy" equiptment. But pick a regional you won't mind staying put at for 6-12+ years.
