I've heard all manner of excuses. Doesn't really seem to matter what the reason is...long sleeves = long trip. Throw in a "I do everything standard" and, well, that traditionally makes for a day full of not-awesome.

The long sleeves with tats typically include long diatribes on being tolerant of things you are intolerant of. You'd better love pit bulls. Regardless, a long trip.
The most legendary captain in the ATL 320 category wore both an academy lanyard as well as long sleeves. He ticked off enough copilots to where a thing came to be called "LORD." LORD stands for "lock out Randy day." Guys would see the were flying with him, knew his employee number and false log in as him with the wrong password enough times to where when he tried to sign in, he would get locked out and have to call the help line. That is how you know you've really f'd up... but he didn't get it.
Ironically, he's a leader in the "orange" campaign. I guess at least some of the crazies see the light?

None of this is to say I don't have my own set of quirks.
When I am thinking about something intently you can:
1) Hear the grinding of gears
2) Smell an odor strangely reminiscent of a burnt clutch.
3) I hum the tune that came from the little intro clip at General Cinemas theaters in the early 1980s.
So go figure...

like one of the last captains i flew with? I already have a bid avoid in...didn't think it would happen that fast.
Funny thing is, I've found the "Mr. Standard" guy to be one of the most clueless, non-standard guys out there.

I've found that there is a "seniority banding" component involved. Like rings in a tree or strata in the ground, the characteristics seem to depend on which band you're passing through.

Almost everyone I fly with who is a recent upgrade is conservative, compliant, and cautious (which is preferable on most days to the "oh eff it" approach of the, erm, how you say, lifer contingent). They typically don't have a problem (with a handful of exceptions) of you speaking up.
Both guys that I will NOT operate an airplane with at this airline were people who said that they did not need either my help or my input on the operation. (As they flew, for instance, an unstabilized final.)

As a probie, are you discouraged from speaking up? Would it have put you on a watch list or something? I've read here and other places that these bully types enjoy having power over newbies on IOE and probies still in their first year. Because they're new, and scared to speak up for themselves, scared that if they do it will put their job in question/get written up. And as a result, will just take the abuse quietly.
As an FO, with Captain authority, must you submit freely to "do it my way types?"[/user]
