(RTTNews.com) - Delta Air Lines
said Friday that it has reached an agreement with Airbus to acquire 37 additional A321s as part of its efforts to renew its narrowbody fleet. The fuel-efficient A321s will replace older-generation jets, including the MD-88. The 37 aircraft will be delivered concurrently with existing A321 orders through 2019.

These transactions are part of Delta's broader fleet strategy allowing the company to achieve its long-term financial targets, including 15 percent EPS growth and generation of $4-5 billion in free cash flow annually, while replacing 20 percent of its mainline narrowbody fleet over the next five years.

The agreement follows an announcement Thursday that Delta would become the U.S. launch customer for Bombardier's C-Series small narrowbody aircraft.

You sure?
I know of a really cheap ass airline that only has 1 J/S in their 320's and 321's...

What airline could you possibly be talking about???

This is great, keep it up. Any hope though for new wide body orders? Delta only seems fixated on narrow body orders lately. AA and UA have far more wide bodies, than Delta. And I keep reading that a lot of Delta's wide body flying is being given to JV's. I know that this was a huge concern with the last TA, and helped contribute to its downfall. Are all these issues looking to be fixed with the new TA?

Time will tell. I'm still optimistic that we get this thing done relatively quickly although admittedly I seem to be in the minority.

Delta has similar amount of widebodies to the rest of the Legacies. However Delta's has far fewer widebodies that pay the top rate with only 18 777s and 12 747s.

IMO Paybanding the 330, 787, and 767-400 to the 777/747 should be a top priority in negotiations.
