KCM International

I have no idea why ALPA didn't fight this change or why we didn't hear about this change before it happened.

I too agree Cabin crew should not be using KCM. They do not anything close to what pilots have invested in their career and training. Just allow the Cabin crew to use Pre Check lanes.

What really cracks me up is TSA and SIDA badges. TSA agents don't get screened and just come and go through the sterile area, New hires are allowed to work airside just escorted while they are going through the SIDA badging process and I hear a lot don't pass it a couple of weeks later and are let go. These guys were "escorted" (i use that term very loosely) those weeks or days until they got canned. They wonder how the crap get through.

Out of all the problems and crap getting into the sterile area I would love to know the break down

Cabin Crew
Airport Workers with SIDA access

This is a tough thing. @Seggy will argue that ALPA paid for the development and he has a good point. However at this point I don't really care if they are using it. BUT, if a flight attendant is the one to screw it up and they want to shut it down, I hope ALPA will fight for it just being us again.
It's an economy of scale issue. When this was all going down the TSA argued that they could not staff the KCM for the occasional flight crew member to come through. That's when ALPA, AFA, etc all joined and the numbers worked.

This is a silly rule, in my opinion. Also, I feel that anyone with KCM should be exempt from the dreaded SSSS.

That's not a TSA issue, that's up to the airline you are flying on. The airline controls who they put in the pool to be a selectee, and my understanding is they can choose to put crew in it or not.

TMK the SSSS on the ticket is completely Random and also can also be triggered by pre defined values in the system

You can get yourself a known traveler number thing to avoid it. Global entry and precheck all at the same time to.

Huh, I thought that was more or less the entire purpose of the program.

Nope. Anyone can be a "selectee" for additional screening at any time.

The purpose of the "Known Traveler" program is technically expedited screening and a streamlined process, not necessarily exemption.

I think KCM should be for flight crew. Not for cabin crew. Most of the problems I've witnessed are always with the cabin crew.

A crew is a crew. Cockpit or cabin. I'd think it wouldn't help to have a plane delayed at the gate because cabin crew is held up at security waiting to get through, while the cockpit crew breezed through.

While there may have been issues with cabin crew, there's been more than a share of issues with cockpit crew too; no one faction is necessarily immune from having done dumb stuff with regards to security checkpoints.

Is this really about smuggling? Since when was the security checkpoint a customs inspection point, and TSA become an arm of DEA or CBP?

If a crime happens to be caught at the checkpoint, it's not going to be overlooked. TSA may not be the enforcer, but LE will be alerted.

Obviously if they find something they should do notify the proper authorities, however their mandate is to screen for threats to aircraft, it seems this policy confuses this mandate with some other function.

TSA was given badges to give them appearance of authority over the public they have not been granted or charted for. All they can technically do is call a LEO, however some think they have the same power if not more than a sworn LEO.

Some were busted awhile back trying to do traffic stops..

Why not just keep randomly screening people? That seems to be working. Making up unenforceable, BS rules that the criminals aren't going to follow anyway is stupid.

"Imma carry 50 pounds of cocaine through KCM today...Wait. Awww damn they changed the rules and said I can't go international with KCM anymore. Shucks. Guess I'll just go home."

Or simply - legitimately punish those who violate the policy and conduct criminal behavior?
