JC Weight loss challenge.

I'm up for a little accountability, I don't wear my fitbit anymore, it became more of a hassle than well anything else. My weight crept back up last year, so my goal is to lose 30 lbs by summer. 4 weeks ago I weighed 253.4, this morning 244.7. We changed gyms and I have been doing cycling classes 2-3 times a week, and I am on a meal service plan thru a local company to get the nutrition right. http://projectleannation.com/

I've lost the weight before, I can and will do it again.

I started the other thread about running, but I'm also trying to shed at least 20 lbs. I'm around 205 right now. Super bowl Sunday didn't help any, but I can start new tomorrow!

Cool a few more.

I'm thinking we can start this up from March 1st and carry this through June 1st.

Some are going to really hate me when I say this. But in 2015 I lost 30lbs (went from 196 to 166). Hopefully I can get out of the 166 range and get to my goal weight of 145.

Anybody have any Gym-free (ie low cost) suggestions to stay active during the cold weather months? Last weighed in at 255... like to lose about 45-50. I would be up for some accountability

Find a large YMCA near you that has a pool, has fitness programs and equipment, a jogging track and you can meet other guys there to shoot some hoops with, workout with, etc. Swimming is a great way to lose weight and tone your muscles.

The less you move the less you need to be eating, so you may have to adjust your diet accordingly in the Winter months. You could get a used stationary bike with the handle bars that also work your arms and shoulders much like the bars on an eliptical. Look for one in the paper or on Craig's list or at a swap meet. A lot of people have good intentions to work out and the machine they bought winds up being a clothes hanger. You could probably find some weights and other items that way as well.

Check out some gyms in your area. You'd be surprised at how reasonable the basic monthly membership can be. Just don't let them talk you into a bunch of crap that you don't need. Look for the ones with an indoor track, a swimming pool, racquetball courts, etc. You just have to be committed enough to take advantage of a gym. make a well rounded fitness program for yourself and change it up so you don't get bored and will stay motivated.

I am also up for some accountability. I weigh 245 right now. My goal is to lose 30 pounds by June 1st. I got a YMCA membership and a MyFitness Pal app on my phone. All junk food has been thrown out. By the end of this year, I no longer want to to look like Homer Simpson.

I turn 55 in May. Have noticed how little tweaks here and there can cause painful discomfort for days. Decided to join the Y and start doing a weight routine. I hated it. Lasted about two months after I paid for a year in advance. Just didn't feel comfortable being in a gym environment. I'm the last guy you'll see join a class or do Zumba. I don't need to lose weight, just need to tone up.

Winters are hard for me cause I can't get out so much. This winter I made a concerted effort to get on my treadmill and have stuck with it. I burn 500 cals a day on that or do a two hour walk if I can get outside. I also starting doing pull ups (I can do three, working on it), push ups (30), crunches, leg raises, planking, and work with hand weights while watching TV. I feel like toning up will keep me from hurting myself and less aches and pains.

I generally eat a low fat, low sodium, diet. Lots of veggies and no red meat. Works for me. I did a meatball sandwich one day followed by a burger for dinner the next, and boom, I was up 3 lbs. I get back to my normal diet and exercise routine and I lose a pound a day. I'm happy at 155.

No point to this post. Just another persons experience. Best of luck to all trying to lose weight. I think what you eat is as important as working out.

@CBurkFly Fit Decks are a neat cheap way to create your own workout that you can do just about anywhere, and keep a varied workout. https://fitdeck.com/ dont buy direct from them you can find them much cheaper around the web and the offer different decks for what you want to do.

@DE727UPS , Guys don't goto Zumba for the workout, just sayin ;)
I wasnt a gym person either, until a few years ago we joined a family run MMA gym, this was the difference to keep us motivated, the personal experience with the gym was nice. But there are downsides, it was more expensive, and offered less classes. Eventually changes in our schedules prevented us from making the majority of the classes so we switched to an LA Fitness, but still do the classes almost exclusively.

I would get on Groupon/Living Social and try out the various workout programs there. Actually Groupon is where I found the place I've been going to for close to a year.

I'm in too! My last weigh in for the Army was a little rough to say the least. It'd be nice to have some other avenue to keep myself honest on the road!

Few minutes until March 1st (at least in my neck of the woods) so may as well report my starting stats:

Starting weight: 168.6 lbs.
Goal weight: 140-145 lbs.

Feel free to add any healthy recipes and workout tips.

I'm game to do this as well!!!

Then post your starting weight! :D

Edit: This is everyone's challenge too. Seeing how JC is about paying it forward we should share workout tips, healthy recipes, and the like.
