What the hell is a SJ30?

The SyberJet! (At least that's what it is called now.) Neat concept that suffered the same fate as most of the other VLJs during the VLJ "boom" of the mid - late 00's. The type has recently been resurrected and slated to go back into production soon, with Mr. Freeman signed on as a buyer (and maybe investor in the company; can't remember). He also owns one of the original SJ30s, which I'm guessing is this aircraft.

He is a pilot. He got his instrument rating around the same time I got mine at an airport near where I did my flight training.

Yes. He did sound like he was narrating when he made his traffic pattern calls.
