Yeah we explored that back at my last job but it boiled down to the fact that redundancy, to me, in that situation is actually worse. Would I rather have two of something with the same failure modes or two things with different failure modes?Ya there's quite a few, but you still have to keep a magneto in every installation I've seen, which negates almost all of the advantages. Fixed timing is the biggest problem.
Overall, I guess, magnetos are actually pretty reliable, but we could be building on that reliability and we aren't.
Everything is as it was in 1958.
