In all reality, is anyone applying?

I see a lot of PHDs, Test Pilot School Graduates, and Electrical/Aeronautical Engineers on the list of current astronauts.

Awesome! Good luck.
Would be an interesting to see some posts in the "pics from the road" thread looking down on the rest of us :)

I always wondered what happens when you fart.

Is it like a little thruster?

Reality check: I don't think I'll get far, but you never know.

There are a few ways in which I don't meet their wickets (such as being a bit of a fatty, for one :D). But in about 2-3 years, I should be good to go, at least on paper. So, whenever they class up again after that time, I probably will. I mean, why not? Like @TomcatG said, I'd do it just to frame the TBNT letter!

I have an aviation degree, I think that is not a qualifying degree. Looks like I'm SOL

Send the app now then. I don't know how often they open up the hiring window to even take a shot at the opportunity.

There are no age restrictions for the program. Astronaut candidates selected in the past have ranged between the ages of 26 and 46, with the average age being 34.
I have my doubts the supply would be able to keep up with the demand in the testicles of a 26 year old Astronaut.

If I had a STEM degree I would apply in a heartbeat just to say I tried it. Then again, I've watched and read The Right Stuff far too many times for a normal human being...

Fly spaceships, make history, hell yes.

Snack on a $17 airport sandwich, trotting along, subsonic at FL350, flying the "Flying Minivan" to Florida full of tourists, ehh… doesn't compare.

I want to go to space. It was technologically a reasonable expectation when I was a child before the anti-science crowd and accountants took over the world.
