Question regarding Marine flight school

I do like to make a plan before I take a dump. My hometown has a nuke sub. I was shooting for that. USS Topeka. Thank goodness cooler heads prevailed on that choice.

I almost joined the Navy because of The hunt for Red October. True story.

Russian or US?

So what is the best option if you have no desire to fly commercially? I hear how great the Guard/reserves are but your job possibilities are so limited. Is it worth skipping AD hoping you land full time gig in your unit?

There are lots of guard bums. I wasn't a flyer, weather, but I bummed for about 6 years until I was picked up by the FAA. Could of easily kept the bumming going if I didn't get the FAA job.

Now I wasn't at my home base but I did have some nice locations such as Savannah, GA and some not as nice like Taji.

There are alot of ways to get paid as a Guardsmen, and not be a civilian pilot...
These might not be the most stable longterm positions in fiscal restrictive environments. When budgets aren't passed alot of Techs are wondering how am I going to get paid?
There are Temporary Technicians, known as Temp Techs, Temp Indefs, and AGR positions. AGR being the most coveted.
Temp-tech, Temp-Indefs pretty much involve working Monday-Friday in a position in the squadron as a "quasi-civlian" wearing the uniform but paid on a GS scale. AGR is active duty but working at the Guard unit, most coveted b/c of all the bennies that come with active duty. Then there is Guard Bums... Those that go on/off orders as they become available, use various methods of getting paid.

The availability of these positions varies between each squadron, it's ops tempo, it's mission, and the manning. So really it depends on each circumstance if it's worth it. I know guys that love it or hate it. I have always been a Traditional so I can't really comment on the details of each but people make it work
