AA 550 Diversion/Captain Dies in Flight

One of my worst nightmares.

The road is already the loneliest place on Earth even though you're always seemingly in a crowd of people, but checking out on the road is even worse.

Sorry bud.

One of my biggest fears, too.

One of my big fears too. In the hotel on a layover is my worst fear. RIP and blue skies.
I was going to say - at least in the airplane, SOMEONE will notice (unless the other guy/gal is asleep too).

One of my initial instructors at Eagle had a stroke in his hotel room on layover. He survived (as far as I know he's actually doing quite well), but that's a situation that could easily deteriorate and nobody would notice until report time. :(

We had a pilot die on an overnight in AMS. Apparently no one knew why their flight was delayed until someone saw a body being pulled out on a stretcher covered up with a sheet.

Another got run over by a train on an AMS layover in The Hague.

"Fortunately, the co-pilot was able to take over on this heroine flight and land the plane safely" The humanity, Yeesh, no wonder, after 15 years flying ENG I had more than enough. Just a bunch of human mic stands. "Keep talking until you can think of something to say"

RIP onwards....

Report said he had a illness...

Apart from a stroke or heart attack, what other undetectable illnesses occur mid-flight that could kill a crewmember?

I wonder how old he/she was.

Sounds a lot better to say illness than old age when you are lobbying for an increase in retirement age.
