Airshows shouldn't exist

Unless air shows are going to be held 100 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico, air show performers are gonna have to fly over a road, highway or interstate, somewhere. Hell, aerobatic teams fly over entire cities to mark land points, boundaries, markers etc (and practice), before weekend shows. What's really the difference? An accident is an accident is an accident.

Put them out over the water. Do them out in the desert. Whatever. But no, allowing them to take place over populated areas is completely unacceptable.

Pretty sure you can figure that out.

As it stands right now, you can fly powered aircraft (motor gliders) without a medical certificate. They can even be turbine powered, which is becoming more common.

So no, I don't really see how light aircraft are all that much different. The only good reason that I can think of is that gliders don't operate at night, so color vision tests may be somewhat less relevant.

Can you fly a powered glider into a Class B airport?

You showed that heart disease is a leading cause of death. Many folks show signs of heart disease through high blood pressure which is checked for during your AME visit. For a lot of folks it is caught then. Why take that check away?

I do see what @Seggy and @ATN_Pilot are saying about the box being open over a road. Here in Seattle they close one of the floating bridges for the larger acts. Due more because idiots drive cars into each other but also because planes have a higher chance of falling out of the sky during an airshow.

Banning all shows is lunacy.

Get the feeling that this thread has turned into nothing more than a few people poking these things with a stick.

Yeah I am familiar with Class B rules. Didn't know if powered gliders are able to though.

The issue is having a transponder. Which a motor glider probably does have. Most gliders do not have electrical systems, so transponders are somewhat less common. But with Mode C, so long as ATC gives you a clearance, that's all there is to it.

Ok.

How much fuel does one carry, how much does one weigh loaded?

About the same as a similar sized airplane. Not uncommon for the same design to be type certified as a glider and an airplane. Especially for Grobs and Katanas. The glider can weigh more, as they often carry water ballast to be as heavy as possible in flight.

Ok.

It appears there is a loophole then with the glider rules and medical certification.
