SWA taking off with music over PA?

To be fair, the average SWA passenger has the attention span of an ADHD gnat, so you could make a strong argument that being incredibly irritating is a safety device.

Wait... whut? ...

...Hey, want to ride bikes?!

I guess the conclusion is do what you want, but on my jet, "Aww, come on man" isn't going to suffice when I say "QUIDDITT!"

1. SWA's product sucks, and has contributed to the decline in the quality of US air carrier product quality for over three decades.

By what quantitative measurement does their product suck? By everything I see their product is well received.

Personally my father (retired business traveler) enjoys taking them and actively chooses them over United/DL which would be the logical choices. He hates dealing with UA/DL agents and crews and finds Southwest predictably good.

@ATN_Pilot you're right it's not a business traveller' product. It's a leisure travelers product.

I think Wall street's opinion on them and the other (U)LCC's have a but more clout.

You like Wall Street? Okay.

LUV: 217% over 5 years
DAL: 292% over 5 years

The legacy carriers operate a fine product for leisure travelers. I'm not sure why you think "leisure traveler" has to be synonymous with "classless hick."

Those classless hicks pay my mortgage.
I know you're specifically talking about SW, however you are painting a broad brush on every non-legacy airline.

I've never seen any difference in passengers on SWA than any other airline I've been on. SWA flights out of DAL to HOU or AUS are actually full of "suits" usually.

I just took a quick look at the ticket prices to ATL from BWI next Monday and Delta is cheaper (only by a buck in some cases) than SWA with the exception of the "Wanna Get Away" tickets.

You should go back and read again. I didn't refer to your customers as classless hicks. I said that leisure does NOT equal classless hicks. SWA just seems to think so with their trailer park product.

Here's a serious inquiry about Southwest (from my wife who LOVED Citrus)... Why in the hell did Southwest do away with assigned seats and business class seat offerings that Air Tran made so successful out of Atlanta?!?
My question is why would I ever fly an airline that won't let me book and confirm two seats, next to one another, so that I can guarantee, before I even get to the airport, that I can sit next to my wife for the 5-6 flights we travel a year?!?

Your question shows exactly why SWA is struggling in Atlanta, and why rumors are going around that the ATL domicile will be closed and the flights cut back. The Atlanta traveler, even the "leisure" traveler, isn't going to put up with SWA's crappy product when the best product in the industry is available for the same price from Delta.

And thank your wife for her business. Everyone at AirTran was proud of our product, and I'm glad she enjoyed it.
The only thing she says that comes close to the service she experienced on Air Tran (mostly flights to and from New York State) is sitting in business class on Delta domestic flights so now we don't even care about the additional cost, but the experience and having music played over the PA isn't it... We've tried American recently, as I'm sure a lot of people out of Atlanta have as well, and they were horrendous from ATL-MIA RT and ATL-ORD RT. so from now on, it's Delta Air Lines.

Meanwhile, Frontier and Spirit are expanding their operations in Atlanta. Southwest has this mindset that they can come in and things are going to be changed for "them." We definitely see this from the air traffic side! The ATC service here has worked for years and years and years to make ATL the busiest and most efficient airport in the world and SWA company's brilliance isn't going to make things change. You either play by the same rules (speed assignments, vectors, etc) or you don't.

Ahhh, yes. The "Southwest Effect." Our little corner of the Northeast US had it in the 90's...Now we're a ghost town issuing wake turbulence alerts for tumbleweed.
