On a serious note, as a flip flop flyer, a lot of it depends on where I'm going.
If I'm going on a local hop around the local area, there are no mountains, there are no snow covered fields, etc, etc..
I can comfortably walk pretty much anywhere around here barefooted, much less in sandals if they stayed with me in the off field landing.
That said, sure, there are some swampy areas around here, and it would be a pain to walk in that barefooted, I'll grant that.
If I were to go on a decent XC over terrain other than my local area, I'd review my footwear.
I don't fly the boss in around in shorts and flip flops, but I don't have any issues flying myself or family in such. I have no issues wearing flip flops to church. I have flip flops that cost just as much and more than some of my "nice shoes."
I wear flip flops when it's warm and boots when it isn't. LOL
