Regularly, on NY-FL flights on DLX on the 737, we would have people remove and then try to take flashlights with them.

Addtionally, we have coach passengers plop down in first class thinking it was first come first serve.
 
People do surprisingly stupid things when in a panic, that they would likely never do at any other time, and would even find to be stupid had they seen others do it. Panic can have that effect on even the most usually normal people.
 
Yea we have the same sort of stupid on the ATC side but instead of jumping out the doors on aircraft we have had calls from "people" who were listening to Live ATC and watching the the traffic on Flight Aware and report that they observed near misses on the final at KORD.

I think there's an additional charge on Allegiant for storing your bag during an evacuation.

I can certainly understand/belief that in some instances. The interesting thing in this situation is that they weren't panicked enough to leave their baggage behind and not take the time to gather up all of their other belongings as well, or not take photos or not make phone calls or jump off the wing and run away. No one reported anyone screaming or yelling either. There was no smoke and no fire. They over-reacted because of some amount of fumes/odor. They didn't even give the crew time to address them.

One idiot decides to open the door and some of them just follow suit like lemmings along with all their stuff. I would think that if you are truly that much in fear for your life, you just escape/get out/run, etc. These people just look like any other pax standing in line at a gate. They don't exactly look terrified to me. One lady is smiling, another pax has his hand on his hip and so on. And who in this day and age doesn't know that the wings contain fuel tanks? They are standing on the very thing that they think they are escaping. Maybe there is just a thin line between panic and utter stupidity.

Not to turn this into every other thread, but that's why I'm not crazy about regular Joe concealed/open carrying. Prove you have the skills and demeanor to be an asset, have at it.

The problem is people are pretty stupid in general when they're around airplanes even when there's no emergency, so I can't even imagine how dumb they are when an actual emergency is going on. The things I see on a day to day basis while flying just leaves me dumbfounded at times.

Considering how many people have called various law enforcement entities over the years and reported the planet Venus as a UFO, nothing should surprise me, I guess.
