The best thing since sliced bread

Can I ask what most of the other pilots use? I assume most use the ship's telex, but what do the majority of the pilots not using the telex use?

I don't remember the bus being so loud that noise canceling was a necessity, although I'm sure any environment over a certain decibel for extended periods of time over a career could be damaging.

Thanks.

We have Telex 750's built in. The guys that bring their own headsets are using a combination of Telex 850's or Telex 5x5's. Seen a few Sennheisers too.

Do it. I've never had a problem even flying 10+ hour days with them. Plus you can jam out to music if that kind of thing wasn't incredibly frowned upon and something I would never do.
I've never done it either. Because I'm too poor to afford a headset that can. But once I can, I will, dangerously.

After revisiting this thread, I'm going to drop a few ¥ and buy the Pro-X.
I've been really happy with my X-11's. But it's a PITA switching them out between the jet and the

With my luck, as soon as they arrive, I'll upgrayed into the 145...

Quick update for those who are interested.

Stopover store:
I flew to DTW to grab a pair for $637.
Cheaper than MSP ($745)or what I've found online. ($695)

They are delicious.

See the new lounge?

I've used the Pro-Xs in 172s and now 207. Works fine for those. I'm sure they're better in quieter planes! I had one of the sides pop off once, luckily I happened to find the e-clip and stuck it back on. They've been durable otherwise.

Only complaint is the auto music cutoff absolutely sucks compared to lightspeed. Takes too long to come back on and reduces the volume to almost nothing, so it's not a smooth transition. You can turn this feature off so it continues to play during transmissions.

Battery life is also poor, especially on Bluetooth, but I use rechargeables.

I had a look at the lounge. Wide open concept. Didn't kick my feet up, since I raced to catch a flight back home.

So funny story. I originally was planning on going to MSP to grab them. Flew to DTW instead (obviously...). When I poked my head up into the cockpit to say hello, it was a dude I interacted with in the Corps.
He's a hornet guy, and I played around hornets.
He was doing IOE and we talked about Marine stuff.
Funny how things turn out at the drop of a hat. And I drop a lot of hats in life.

Odd, I'm still on my first set of batteries.

I go through batteries like skittles when I'm flying this lil gal. (in X-11)

But when I fly the big mainline regional airplane, they last for a long while. Clearly they weren't working as hard.

I've had my set for at least 6 months now so they may have updated it? Battery life was a common complaint on reviews. Battery life was significantly better on the Lightspeed Sierras I had, but they were junk in other ways. Zulus are by all means great though.

Anybody done a compare with the Dave Clarks vs. clarity aloft pro?

This question again...

I've been using Clarity Aloft for about 4 years. I love the headset, so quiet, so light; but it also seems pretty finicky and breaks about every year. Luckily customer service is phenomenal, and they quickly send me a new replacement. I'm tired of having to go through the process though. 2 months with a new replacement CA, and the left ear stopped working the other day. I'm pretty tempted by the DC's.

March 20th or such until May 15th the first set of batteries lasted.

However, I'll generally pull them off in the flight levels if the other pilot doesn't want to stay on the intercom so I'd call it "moderate use".

Still, after two months, best pair of headsets I've ever owned.

It's literally a sensory deprivation chamber. All I feel during takeoff is the occasional thump of the centerline lights and the 'click' 'click' of the thrust detents during spoolup.

How does it do blocking out the fire warning bells? Heard those are annoying as all hell.......

The bus is much quieter than the 737 because... Well, I'm not sure why. Because Boeing can't figure out how to use curved glass? Because Boeing can't park windshield wipers vertically? Because it's easier to resurrect the 707 cockpit without bothering to reengineer anything? Anyway. The 737 is noisy and requires high end noise attenuation whether it be active or passive.

I got to try the Zulu PFX's at a trade show earlier this month. Blew My Zulu 1s and Bose a20s out of the water. Crazy quiet when the acoustic response mapping kicks in after a minute or so of the ANR being on.
