ALPA drive at Virgin

And yes mine was submitted. My main reason is to protect what I already have and to have a say in a merger scenario which IMO is inevitable (hello jetBlue?;))

Hell just froze over....

It IS, in fact, in the 70's in PHX.

People that aren't in unions talk smack about those that are in one, but when it becomes "holy crap, I'm just a cog and a cost figure in a much larger machine", suddenly, they want help and protection.

Everyone talks smack about Americans, right up until the Germans bust through the Maginot Line.

The Germans didn't actually bust through the Maginot Line, they went around it. Also, the Germans probably would have lost to the French, if the French leadership had their stuff together.

:)

True, but I was ALPA prior at the regional. IMO I feel a lot better about being a part of ALPA now that I'm at a major versus when I did while at a regional.

Good luck homeboys. B6ALPA will support you guys with whatever we can. @Cherokee_Cruiser, DOH? Right?

My DOH at B6 could hold JFK E190 CA. :D

In fact, at every single major, I'd be ok with DOH (I know it'll never happen that way with arbitrators). At Spirit, Allegiant, and jetBlue it's enough for a CA slot. At Frontier, Hawaiian, and Alaska, it is not for CA but still good enough for a FO.

If VX is involved in a merger, I dont think being ALPA or not will make a difference. I know thats the play the VXOC is using to get people to vote in the union, but the size we are and how young we are, the Captains will get hosed and the FOs will make out like bandits no matter who buys or merges with us. That's just my personal opinion.

This isn't accurate.

With ALPA, odds are you will be merging with another ALPA carrier, and subject to the ALPA merger policy for integrating your seniority lists. Without ALPA, you will be merging under McCaskill-Bond, which is essentially Allegheny-Mohawk.

Research the difference between the two and you will see that you likely have a better opportunity for a "smoother" integration when using the ALPA policy vs McCaskill-Bond.

McCaskill-Bond only requires "Fair and equitable" between the two parties. If Virgin were to be acquired by a large Legacy carrier, it would be a very simple argument for a Legacy merger committee to make by simply stating "Because we give Virgin opportunity to higher rates, larger aircraft, and longer career stability, we request this opportunity/benefit be taken into consideration when deciding on a method for seniority list integration."

ALPA requires 3 different considerations for integrating the lists, so that your status as a CA or senior FO would be taken into consideration, your career expectations (to be an A320 CA), and longevity. The policy also allows for pilot, non-voting advisors to sit on the arbitrator panel to help advise the arbitrator(s) on the decision.

I said pretty much exactly what you just did in a post (motor oil) and was likened to Hitler... be careful, the mods here can be tough.

You're at VX? When?

I musta missed it, but congrats! :)

Starting to get better. We had a decent payraise this year matching jetBlue's 2014 rate (only wages). And we are finally upgrading again, 8 FOs for the bid closing May 1 and effective July 1. 5 new planes coming this year starting August-December and then 5 more for next year Jan-July. Financially we have turned the corner as well, successfully IPOed last December, and have been doing well. New flights from SFO to Honolulu and Maui start in the 4th quarter this year.
